C-Diff never goes away, it just goes "dormant" until the good bacteria get wiped out again & it can multiply unencumbered by competition.

OK, they are giving you pre procedure antibiotics, to avoid bacterial endocarditis, like oldtrapper said. Which can cause problems with your heart and heart valves, as well as trigger a bigger infection. Also if you have any hardware such as a hip or knee replacement bacteria can settle there causing a whole bunch of problems. If you are taking Doxycycline, your risk for developing C-diff is is lower, than other antibiotics they could have used, which very well could have set it off again. Doxycycline is not considered a broad spectrum antibiotic. Now as far as the stomach stuff on Doxy, have some food with it and don't lay down after taking it.
