I understand that fixed 4 powers are more and more rare. Which one is considered the pick of the litter? I will use it on my Model 70 Winchester current production 7-08 bolt gun....thanks.

SEEMS, from my limited research and knowledge, that current production of 4x’s leans much more heavily towards the tactical crowd. But I will be interested to see the responses here.

I know this is an example of one of those statistically insignificant comments, but at one time I was on the same quest as you and picked up a S&B Klassic 4x. I fixed it up top a 350 Rem magnum (~30/06 level + of recoil) and in less than a box of cartridges the reticle dropped down and sideways. It was roughly a $1k scope at the time (‘90s) and the customer service pretty much matched the scope. This probably wasn’t helpful. 🙂

The Weaver is a nice optic, but the Meopta Artemis beats it hands down.

I had the same quest for a perfect 4 power. I have one Burris Supreme 4x which is by far the best scope I have ever had. I wish I had bought 6 of them. But, alas, the search in the world of today. My next one will be a Kaps 4x, made in Germany. 3.5 inches eye relief, and about 14.5 oz in wt. Not easy to find here but they are out there. You can see and read about them here: https://www.kaps-optik.de/en/sport-...ne/classic-line-4-x-36.html#collapse4455In addition to the 4x36 they also make a nice looking 6x42. Same eye relief, a couple ounces heavier. Both look extremely durable.

I buy older M8 4x’s off E-Bay for my 4x’s. Still some decent deals to be had and those older Leupold’s seem to hold onto zero real well.

32 years ago I bought the Kahles 4 x 32 and it still works well. Later I bought the last of the Kahles 4 x 36 which had better glass than the prior. Since those have been discontinued, I bought directly from Germany, two Karl Kaps 4 x 36 and one 2-8 x 42 directly from them in Germany last December when they had a discounted program.
Those are also better to my eyes than the prior Kahles. I believe the Kaps scope have laser etched reticles. The shipping to Hawaii took about 5 weeks total.

The Leupold 4x33 is a good and rugged scope, but the gold standard for reliability is the older M8 4x28 “long tube”. Very flexible in mounting options too. I’ve never seen one fail to hold zero, over about 15 of these dating back to 1974.

Guy on here a while back was high on Kaps. I looked into them and it'd be a bit of a hassle to get one, but they look very nice.
Only 4 I run now is a Lyman PermaCenter that came with the Husky I snagged last Fall. Replaced the mounts, and once I figgered out the adjustments, it dialed in just fine. Was pleasantly surprised at the tight groups I was able to shoot with this antique combo, especially with only a 4x.
What fresh Hell is this?

GF1,
Same here.
Has to be among the toughest fixed-powers ever made. I used one during my testing of .416 Weatherby power handloads in my CZ .416 Rigby, and after a bunch of shooting it never shifted zero. Will take that every time over a slightly brighter view.

Not a 4x, but close...3X "big bore" from the Leupold custom shop. Lots of reticle options, long tube for mounting and excellent eye relief. It's actually a 3.4X, which is pretty close.
The 4X Artemis from Meopta is also excellent, especially with a #4 reticle. Bob
