It seems to be a personal preference to carry "Cocked & Locked" or "Rack & Roll ". I've always liked to carry with one in the pipe. For those that disagree I wrote this Epitaph for their tomb stone.

"Epitaph"

John liked to carry with no shell in the chamber

He thought he could rack it if he was in danger

when he met with a bad guy he came out second best

Now here lies poor John with a hole in his chest

I see no purpose to not have 1 in the chamber.

I cannot even have this discussion it comes down to almost a religious belief. Those that carry an unready gun and hope have a religion, their religion is the 'Church of the feel good but likely to be dead morons".

I never even realized this was a thing prior to joining internet forums.

I guess they get their tactics from watching the movies

I don't chamber one. I have kids, they've been raised around guns, etc and as responsible as I try to be with our firearms, if there is some off the wall chance they have a stupid moment and pick on up when I'm not with them....as of right now, there is no way they could rack one in strength wise. If I'm by myself carrying or in the woods, I'll usually have one in the pipe, but not around the house or even in my vehicle at this point in time.

Those who carry with an empty chamber are likely to spend the rest of their life running the slide.

That condition should only happen under a few circumstances. Everyday carry is not one of them!

I've never understood that carry cold philosophy. Guess it works for the Israelis.

Cold carry part is not the scary part. Waiting for them to run home and get it out of the safe, take off the trigger lock, load the magazine, put it in the gun, rack the slide then safely holster it would be what worries me.. Ain't that why they make striker fired DAO's ? MB

The real question is how many cold carry a long gun in the field, but carry a handgun hot?

That question has got to be good for 5 pages.

Very different situations.

True, but, I even carry a capped muzzle loader with the hammer resting on the cap, that should be good for another five pages, all bs aside, why should we be more careless and less attentive, trained and aware than the Mountain Men that carved a path for our very existence?
