A friend of mine is wanting to sell me a bolt action 30-06 at a killer price but he said he fired a 25-06 round in it by mistake . He said it still shoots great and doesn't seem to be damaged but I don't know if I could trust it or not ? Any of you guys have thoughts on this or should I just pass on it ? Thanks

it's prob fine but pass on it anyway. it won't be fun to shoot if you have any doubts at all about it's safety

If the entire issue is about firing a 25-06 in a 30-06, there is no issue. The 25-06 casing will now be a 30-06 case and should be discarded. The gun should not have been hurt in any way. If there are other concerns, walk away, but that firing should not hurt a thing.

That is the only issue He said he was shooting it and a 25-06 on the same day and just loaded a 25-06 round in it by accident . Said it still shoots really good but I just wasn't sure about it . I once owned a 25-06 so I could see how that could happen I guess .

Small bullet + big hole = low pressure, no danger, other than maybe the bullet bouncing back at you. It's actually a valid method of expanding case necks uniformly in some wildcat cases, and I've done it a bit myself.

Not a problem. A pard was trying to sight in his 250 savage one day....bullets were keyholing Told him shooting 250 sav cartridges would be way more accurate than the 22/250 he was shooting. He shot 3/4 of a box before questioning me. Went on the shoot the 250 sav cartridges and it shot great.

There is no way a 25-06 would hurt a 30-06 rifle. If it's a deal on a rifle you like, buy it.
I fired a couple 257 Weatherby rounds out of my 300 Weatherby. It didn't hurt anything. Two identical Accumarks and the ammo boxes were identical too both shooting white tipped Accubonds. They sounded like squibs and missed the paper at 100 yards. The 257 brass 2.549" came out with no neck on them because they are about .276" shorter than the 300 Weatherby brass at 2.825".
The worst one like this we have had in the shop was a Remington 700 in 700 RUM that was fired with a 300 Win Mag round in it. On the second shot it locked the bolt. The chamber was swollen so big you couldn't budge the recoil lug and the bolt was so expanded it had to be driven out of the action. The scope and the stock was the only parts that survived.
