Wonder if lowering the price on hog hunts would make a difference?

We’ve been “losing the war” for a long time now! As the article states, they are very prolific breeders. And smart too. Put some pressure on them, they go nocturnal. Or move only to return as soon as the pressure eases. And I believe TX Parks & Wildlife has severely underestimated their numbers. Crop damage has grown exponentially. Not to mention damage to suburban areas. There were no hogs at our Ranch along the Brazos River in N.TX in the 1970’s.

How many thousands in state registration guide fees, lowyer releases, land owner releases, fed state county liability insurance programs payments to united nations, etc i dont know. clearly, the only logical response at this late date in the development of the vorld is to re-do the ecosystem? that is, in areas of the world where there's an excess supply of predators such as bobcats, mtn lions (panter's), wolves and bears there must be a redistribution program placed into effect, and it need's to be implemented now. with enough predators from a diverse population of predators, the right combination can be determined, and then implemented. what is it that will predate on hogs, and where are they located? where is there an available supply? who can begin shipments to the area that help is needed? this ain't rocket science. the werner von braun types aren't needed for the solution to this issue. the bio-chemists are lurking in the background as we speak. no tellin' what kind of lab developed virus focused on the hog population they could come up with if the grants were large enough. we could have defeated the fire ants, but chose not to. far more money made in fighting fire-ants than eliminating fire ants.

What the guides and leaseholders like to charge for a hog hunt, you'd think the hogs were an exotic critter. Couple of did a "Guided Hunt" in the San Antonio area few years ago, what a rip.
I'd rather die in a BAD gunfight than a GOOD nursing home.

I killed four this past deer season after I took the deer I wanted, but you'd never know it.
A number of years ago I caught a debilitating illness after unknowingly cutting my hand while cleaning the skull of a wild hog. Was a very sharp knife. Three specialists couldn't agree on what I had for sure, but it took over nine months to get over it. Therefore I don't mess with the things anymore. If I shoot one I leave it lay. Unfortunately, doing that feeds other hogs
They have increased in numbers and keep us busy grading the dirt roads.
One plus is that the snake population seems lower the last year or so.

As long as Texans continue to view them as a cash crop and not an invasive species, this ain't gonna change. I understand the farmers gotta make a buck where they can, but they charge for these shoots-don't call it a hunt as it's not, like someone's after a Boone and Crockett buck.

Me and my landowner buddy probably kill 100 hogs per year, each. You can rent every helicpoter in the State of TX and you still won't kill them all, or exterminate them. Nothing short of poison will do it, and then you risk killing everything. It's a no win situation IMO.
It is irrelevant what you think. What matters is the TRUTH.

maybe we humans are just somehow misunderstanding the intent of the various wild hogs as they "roothog or die." that is, they're just trying to feed themselves, their offspring and find shelter in a storm.
when wildhogs move into the subdivisions at night and root up the landscaping, and retreat into the forested swamps during the day they're just trying to blend into the landscape in which they find themselves.
making money off of hunting is a good thing, even hunting vermin with a year round open season.
i have given thought to hiring on to a suburban homeowners assoc. as a contractor to help with the pig problem, deer also. but the pay scale was a bit low.
probably i could have made more by setting up as a "hunting guide" and selling my services to well-heeled hunters with a desire to collect a hog.
i doubt that the suburban soccer moms who dearly love stray cats and stray pitbull mixes would allow a wholesale elimination of the wildhog problem.

Wonder if lowering the price on hog hunts would make a difference? Bingo. Thank God no hogs here, but would LOVE to blast one or two. Places in surrounding areas here are asking ridiculous fees. I understand the liability and all that but it's damn near the same price as a deer hunt. Butchering fees,c'mon man. $100. I'll shoot the pig and drag it off your property and do it all myself.
