Anyone running a Bootleg 14.5” upper?

Bootleg is the sister company to PWS. PWS quit making di uppers in 2015 because it was confusing their brand as a piston gun company. They made Bootleg to sell DInippers and parts.

Very lightweight, like the complete upper is 5 lb 15 oz, minus sights, etc.

A 5 lb 15 oz upper is not really very lightweight. Are you going for lightweight build ?

What’s lighter?

Also, this has an adjustable gas system in the bolt for use with suppressors and to tune for specific loads.

I intend to run this suppressed.

David, for whatever this is worth.

Maybe I was lucky. I don't know. But, I've been running the Silencerco Omega and Hybrid on my Colt 6920's with no issues whatsoever. All I did was mount the Silencerco ASR flash hider so I could quick mount the suppressors and I was off and running. No messing with the gas system. Nothing. Both cycle beautifully.

I guess the very lightweight quote is what got my attention . For me the whole gun minus the optic and mag with ammo in the 5 lb range is starting to be lightweight.

That's actually a heavyweight upper, if that number is right & it really doesn't sound right.

I don't think I have a single 16 or 18" upper that weighs that much, bare.

For comparison, I put together a rifle with my son when he was home on leave last month, & so I just weighed it up.

Upper with a 26 oz scope + mount = 6 lb even, so that makes the upper 4 lb 6 oz bare.

That upper has an 18.8" barrel & a Vltor MUR upper receiver, which, as uppers receivers go, is not a lightweight. It has a full weight bolt carrier & a Raptor CH, with a 15" BCM handguard.

The whole gun with scope mount, upper & lower weighs 8 lb 1 oz., so the complete gun itself weighs 6 lb 7 oz

So an upper that weighs 5 lb 15 oz, bare, with a 14.5" barrel is very heavy, relatively speaking, IMO.

YMMV

For a grand, you could get a smith to use a cut 10x barrel, the same parts you list, and square it up in whatever upper you wanted.

My bad,

The whole rifle is 5 lbs 15 oz with lower and MAGPUL CTR stock, naked (no optics, sights or sling).

Yeah, that makes more sense; still not a real LWT but pretty average weight for a gun with that barrel length.

Good point.

You can build a lot of upper for a grand.

Why not just build your own?

This is a full 16" rifle that weighs over a pound less than that upper. All in probably ran me 6 bills. BCG was the most expensive part and it was under 200.

Weight with irons only:
