Does anyone know if Ruger made the American compact in 223? Possibly looking to pick one up form my kids to start shooting and to use as a scouting rifle for pigs. Only other option would be a Remington Model 7???????

Yes, they made them. I have one in stainless. I would think they'd be easy to find.

I bought one of the early ones then ordered a full size stock for it. The plan was to use it with the full size stock and keep the shorter stock for the grandkids later. Mine was a very good shooter, but I sold it after buying the Ranch rifle that takes AR magazines. I like the rifles, don't trust the 4 round rotary magazines.

I have one that’s a great shooter. Not the best mags, and I’m not crazy about the stock but they both work good enough.
I don’t know if I would buy another, but this one has been well worth the price, all things considered.

I have been looking at the same thing for my kids. The Tikka compact will probably win out as it comes with spacers to lengthen the LOP.

I have a Ruger compact and a MIni Howa. I won the Ruger in a Raffle.
I much prefer the smoothness of the Howa's action. The Ruger is an 1:8 twist and prefers 75gr bullets.
Were it me, I'd get the Ruger Ranch that uses the AR magazines.

Have you considered a Howa Mini? Not really, kinda forget about the Howas. May have to check them out. FWIW, a guy at Legacy told me they are "in negotiation" with Howa for Minis with floorplates, if that is of interest to you (it was to me). No time-frame, naturally. Much as I like the Minis, the plastic crap is discouraging. With a perfectly fine Hawkeye AW .223 in hand, I'm pretty set, but a improved Mini might get me thinking.

The RAR S/S Compacts in 223 are 8" RPM and a win, with their thrioat geometry...ala AICS DBM or Plug & Play(have done both).
The Ranch is a Linda Lovelace Slut and to be avoided, despite the allure of a 7" RPM. I've all the T-Shirts.

Just re-read that email from Legacy and they are also looking to get blind-mag models from Howa. The twist will be anybody's guess, but currently they run 1-9, fine for Eastern groundhoggers, but not so hot for shooting across fjords.
