Man, 53, is charged with animal cruelty and jailed on $4,000 bond for leaving his pet FISH behind when he was evicted
Michael Ray Hinson, 53, left his pet fish behind when he was evicted March 22
Oscar fish was found severely malnourished after the North Carolina man left
Fish developed hole in the head disease caused by dirty water and lack of food
Parasite starts in intestines and works from the inside out, 'slowly killing the fish'
It causes lesions in the skin which allows bacteria in and can be fatal
Hinson was arrested and slapped with $4,000 unsecured bond
Police said it is 'a life just like any dog or cat' and 'If you harm or neglect an animal in New Hanover County, we are coming for you'
Fish Room employee said Oscar fish are valued at $40-50 and are very trainable
He added they have huge personalities and some can be aggressive
When the fish is better it will be put up for adoption by Animal Services A North Carolina man has been charged with three counts of misdemeanor cruelty to animals and one count of abandonment of an animal, after he left his pet fish behind when he was evicted from his home. Michael Ray Hinson, 53, was forced out of a property on Two Chopt Road last month but didn't take the Oscar fish with him.

Hole in the head disease in this case is caused by high nitrate levels in the water. Other possibilities are edwarsiella or hexamita. No "parasite eating from the inside out." Dogooders are idiots.

Now we have Oscars in all of central and south Florida waters where we once had bluegills and bass. Oh, and piranhas too' along with a long list of other invasive non-native species. Pizzes me off to the 10's.

Pizzes me off to the 10's. Wow! That never would have occurred to me. Water is too cold here for them to survive, so we would either give them to another aquarium owner or flush them down the toilet.
