I am looking to hunt moose with my savage 99F and a friend has offered to reload some bullets. He bought what he thought were .308 150g projectiles for a .308 and found it had for 300 savage on the box. They didn’t shoot well out of the .308 and he says they were shorter than usual.
Are there .308 180g made for 300 savage? My search so far has come up empty.
Are there other options in .308 180g that might work?

Thanks

Any 308 cal bullet will work in the 300 Savage. Dont matter if its 150 grain or 180 or any other weight so not sure what your friend was talking about. The 300 Savage has a short neck so I stay away from the longer mono bullets, but any good cup and core bullet will be just fine.

Maybe this, having a shorter nose than the regular 150 SST?

You could simplify your life by just buying a couple of boxes of Federal 180 grain factory loads. Shoot a box for practice and use the other box to punch your annual moose tag for the next decade.

Blairich,
Every major bullet manufacturer makes 180 gr bullets properly sized to fit your Savage.
Hornady offers a version labeled specifically for the 300 Savage.
Nosler offers a shorter version of their 180 gr Partition they refer to as "Protected Point" These shot well in my 300 Savage.
Most of the earlier postings offer good advice. As ammunition availability has eased, I am seeing newly manufactured ammo on dealer shelves, at reasonable pricing. It is difficult load better ammo than much of todays factory offerings.
Many guys have found the basic Federal 300 Savage ammo to shoot extremely well.
I am a little uncomfortable with your original comments, and may not have understood what you were trying to say.
My comfort with using ammo, reloaded by someone else, is low.
For several reasons, I support the comments that suggested buying some factory ammo. It's likely your rifle will perform well with the stuff. I have found some for around $20/box.

Imagine your grave on a windy winter night. You've been dead for 70 years.
It's been 50 since a visitor last paused at your tombstone.....
Now explain why you're in a pissy mood today.
