Thanks for the pic - its great to see our young ones out hunting, and they are memories that will last a lifetime for all. Some of my most memorable times were spent in the field with Granddad, Dad and Uncle.

Isn't the .257 a great cartridge? I picked up a like-new Ruger several years ago and it has become my favorite rifle. Floated the barrel, polished the trigger and mounted a used Leupold 4.5-14. Come sun-up I'm going to pick it up and head over to the neighbor's ranches to chase coyotes. With 75g V-MAX it works very well out to 480 yards... laugh

Most Excellent! Congrats to you & your daughter! I got to take my own daughter Brianna with me this year a few times (she's four) and I must say that I've been spinning my wheels for years going alone as I never knew joy in the outdoors until I had her go along. We practiced being still and quiet during squirrel season and I must say that she did very well. On a blackpowder hunt she got a little bored and wanted to "play" with my grunt call so I gave her a few pointers and away she went. Soon she was grunting AND rattling and before long a deer came in behind us. As we were on the ground and the deer was downwind I had to make a quick decision and took a 35 yard neck shot, the deer falling in it's tracks. I shot it as a doe but it turned out to be a spike. The only problem was the 10 pointer that I hadn't seen about 15 yards behind it that immediately made a new path that came right by our tree. We were both excited to see the big buck and though a little heartbroken over the whole thing I thank God for the experience shared with my little girl. She tugged and rubbed on those little spikes and she could have cared less if it had been the Hanson buck. I returned and saw the ten for three straight days and was fortunate to have taken it but those spikes hang on the wall right beside the bigger buck and hold so much higher meaning. If I can figure out how to post a pic on here I'll do so.

You gotta be proud! Don't look like she could be any happier! Showed my daughters the picture, always try to reinforce to them that hunting is for everyone. Great job!

CONGRATULATIONS!!! you only get one first. you will remember it for the rest of your life. keep her in the woods dad and take lots of pictures. i would add the .250 savage to the list of great deer cartridges for young hunters.
