Balls as big as a house, God bless those men.
I can't imagine what it would have been like to be him, to do what he did and to see people today bitching over a man in a dress not being allowed to use the woman's head. This ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ My Dad was a B24 pilot in India/China/Burma. When I was growing up he and I used to watch those old WWII news reels (on black & white TV) and I can remember watching a newsreel of Doolittle's raid and him saying that those Army Air Force pilots were some of the bravest and most talented guys to ever fly. He shook his head in amazement (all those years later) and went on to say that didn't have the talent to do what those guys did. R.I.P.

The end of an era is soon upon us. Some may live to see the 100th anniversary of the start, possibly even Pearl Harbor.

(San Antonio's eldest citizen, unless she's died very recently, is 109 & is the widow of a Roughrider.) yours, tex

I recall an interview several years ago in which Cole said that he had complete trust in Doolittle, but as the first plane off and only 462 feet of deck, he was certain in his heart of hearts that they were going to nose over and have the carrier run over them. And yet, he strapped in and went.

"Sadly, just before taking the stage, I took a call from his son Rich, who shared that there's another hole in our formation, and our last surviving Doolittle Raider has slipped the surly bonds of earth and he is now reunited with his fellow Raiders," Goldfein continued. "What a reunion they must be having."

Courage is not the absence of fear. It is the act of strapping in and going despite your fear. By God, that pretty much describes all of those men who fought in WWII. Nicely put Rocky.

These are our royalty. Instead of the ermine and the purple they wear dash and guts. When there are no more of them we will perish.

Read the book" 30 Seconds Over Tokyo" which was in my grade school library at about age 8. It sparked a lifelong interest in WW2. So many brave men that died so young. At least this was one that got live out his life.
If you havent read it, so much more in it than the movie.

Amazing generation. They always figured out a way to do what couldn't be done.
I watched an awesome documentary on Prime last night about the veterans that figured out a way to fly arms into Israel as the nation was just starting and the USA and UK had strict arms embargoes against Isreal. There was almost another holocaust right after the first one if it wasn't for this small group of brave pilots. They barely got Israel some weapons before they attacked. It was an interesting look at the politics of the time. Think it was called A wing and a prayer.

And now they are all gone....
Truly a landmark end, to a time of the lives of astronomically brave men....
RIP Raiders....and thank you for the Road of Freedom you paved for those of us who followed you in life....Can't speak for others, but you gentlemen were certainly some of my biggest heroes, even in my youth of 10 years old and on....
A Salute of Respect and a heartfelt God Bless Each One of You.
