The modern things work so well, but there are a bunch of old style "stuff", I just like.

What about you good folks?

I still use Weaver K-4 and K-2.5 scopes.

My drillings and cape gun are anything but modern.

I'm the lowest-tech hunter I know who uses metallic cartridges and smokeless powder.

Just because technology has "surpassed" a particular product or technique does not make it obsolete. Most examples of good that just keeps on coming do no less than they ever did.

Agreed on the carbs, points I'm not sold on. I still remember having fun starting the old Ford (can't remember if it was a 360 or 390) if it sat for a couple of days during a rain or snow storm. Although my kids still can't figure out why a non-smoker needs to carry books of matches in the glove box. Fastest feeler gauges ever.

It seems that if one tries to "modernize" he has no chance of ever catching up anyway - by the time you get the thing home, it is outdated.

I have a collection of them. Probably have around a dozen, including the one my grandparents had. I've replaced the kerosene burners with electric ones so I can use them.

We have two or three family heirloom glass based 'coal-oil' lamps but none are Aladdin. New Aladdin brand lamps start at around $200.

We left ours as they originally were. Last time we used them IIRC was during the big ice storm power outage several years back. Besides light they put off a surprising amount of heat.

Sure I have lots of old stuff. Dad's old 1929 Browne and Sharp micrometer still accurate to 2 tenths. Have some old tools i use often like the Miller Falls hacksaw.

BUT there are lots of things that I wouldn't use today even if I could find it new.

Was in an estate selling store yesterday to see the large collection of reels they recently acquired. Sure brought back some memories. A ton of level wind bait casters made by Pflueger, Shakespeare, Trident, Ocean City, and Penn as well as a few lesser names. Some spinning reels like the Mitchells and Quick. A bunch of automatic flyreels. Even found my first pushbutton reel the Shakespeare 1777 in box! I wouldn't use any of these reels for fishing today as their performance is far inferior.
