Need some thoughts and input on price for a S&W model 10( no dashes ) snub nose 38spl 6 shot with nickel finish ( believe its nickel and not stainless ), its in real good shape but has pearl handles and not the original. Serial number starts with a "C". Belongs to an elderly lady that has had if for a long time and has never shot it and said she dont have plans to and afraid a grandbaby will find it. thanks in advance, can text a photo but cant get it to work on here much.

All S&W guns that are stainless start with a "6" model number, so that 10 is nickel plated

as long as it has not been re-cromed... (the trigger and hammer should be case colored) in this area of the country it would go for about $400

Trigger and hammer still uncoated and rest of the gun looks to be original factory coated

The C serial range went from 1948 - 1967. Need the number to narrow it down. This is a model that has been produced in the millions and value is based on condition. A nickel finish is ok as long as it hasn’t started peeling. Value drops without the factory box and grips. $200 - $400 would be the range. Local cop shop here sells trade-in’s for $249 and up...

$300 to $400 tops. No box & no original grips hurts the value.

rugerdiggs,

IF you "look about" you will be STUNNED (as I have been for years) about how many "as new"/unfired K or J S&W frame & D-frame Colt's snub-noses are purchased & NEVER fired.
(When my XYL & I cleaned out her late aunt's house, we found TWO S&W Detective Specials from 1950/54 in a bedside table & in a kitchen cabinet. The Colt was in in one of her late mother's purses. = NONE of the 3 revolvers showed any sign of ever have being fired.)

Her uncle said that he had his old (circa 1944) US&S 1911A1, that he wanted NONE of the .38 revolvers & to "take them with you, when you go".
He also told us that her mother had been told, the week that she was hired as the office receptionist/secretary in the 1950s, that she was to make the night deposits for the office each evening & to take the money from "petty cash" & go buy a pistol/ammo.
(Mildred went to People's Hardware store, bought the Cobra & a box of shells that day, as instructed by the CEO, loaded/carried it every day in the car to/from the bank but NEVER fired it in all the years until she retired & later passed away.)

As to a fair price, I would GUESS 350-450.oo for your K-framed S&W, IF it's in excellent or better condition.

yours, tex

If nickel all in good shape , 450.00 is fair, even without original grips. Snubbies worth a bit more than longer barrels.

Nickel ones bring less here. Snubbies do bring a little more, however.

This is it in a nutshell. Plus, nickel, not blued.

Nickel has become such a downer for folks who seek older revolvers.

Yep, a nice one but not worth a bunch. Nickel was rarer, but then again they made millions of the Model 10. Non stock grips hurt, I would agree $250 to $400.
