Too wet for field work and logging, so out comes the wedges and splitting maul. Oak wilt has taken its toll on Red oak trees and I am getting two benefits, aerobic exercise and cash.

Just once, I will have it sold by the end of the month. How do you sell firewood there? By the cord? Delivered? What does a solid cord of oak go for up there? (I have reason to ask because I have lots of seasoned oak here as a by-product of Hurricane Harvey.)

I charge $300 full cord Red or white oak delivered and stacked within 20 miles. Beyond 20 miles, I add $2.00/mile.

That's a good price!
I'm afraid if I were to get into that, I would have to deliver far from here to escape a glutted market.

A 20" tri-axle of mixed hardwood, cut, split, delivered, dumped in the yard is $700. Things are cheap here. Some, haul it to the cities, and make more.
The scam is the guys with the $100 P/U load.
"It's a 3/4 ton".
4 door, 6 foot bed, wood thrown in, just over rail height.
I would be embarrassed.
Properly stacked, I get right close to 3/4 cord in my p/u. (And I have stacked and measured) Their "load" wouldn't be half of mine.
Roundoak, Why do you crib every layer in every stack? Does it dry faster than cribbing the ends, and straight stacking the rest of the row?

I find that cribbing dries out the wood faster, but I don't do it all the time. In this case there was a couple customer requests for some semi-dry wood.
