I can't find the thread where I saw someone address the function/feature that holds the 99 lever/bolt closed. With the action fully cocked, the firing pin tension secures the action adequately, but if no round is chambered and the action is closed without a cocked firing pin, and the safety off, the weight of the lever or a bump on the bolt pops it open really easily. The fix?

Reno, check the "Misc. Good Info" sticky up top the forum, it's in there.

I'm looking at that post on "Misc info" but the post suggests that the arc of the lever needs to be closed to tighten up the lock up or "lever bite". But after looking closely at the workings of the action, it looks to me like the pin on the lever that cams the bolt up into battery would actually need to be tweaked radially outward or, opening the arc to get a tighter lockup. What am I missing here, and how do I tweak this?

Follow the directions in the sticky. It works, even though it sounds odd that one would have to close the gap to make it tighter. A few thousandths is all you need.

Okay, I've taken a pic of the lever and bolt removed from the reciever but oriented in the manner that they are with the bolt closed. Clearly the camming dog on the lever (backside, can't be seen) must push forward and upward to hold the action closed. If I tighten the lever arc like explained in the thread that was referenced, how will this tighten up the lockup or "lever bite"?
I must be missing something.
