Anyone use the 178 amax in a 30-06 for hunting? I have a lot of them I got several years ago, and thinking about using them for WT, mulies and speed goats. Are they a decent hunting bullet, or better for targets only?

Have used the 168s and work great if you stick to broadside lung shots.

That’s what I was curious about. Some places I hunt I like a shoulder or head shot due to nearby property lines, but in less restrictive areas, the lung shot wastes less meat. May try them on stuff lesser than elk where lung shots are appropriate, or simply use them for targets as designed. I like one load for hunting per caliber, so will probably go wih something else for hunting. Got some 150gr, CT Ballistic Silvertips too, those work pretty well, and made for hunting.

I'm sure 178s will work fine. I used 140s in 6.5 and 168s in .308. Largest animal to date was a Red Stag, one shot, tipped over. Aim for the lungs on big critters. For deer/antelope put it wherever you want it!
