Now that is good news indeed! May need to get gun gack! Am I right that you sign books? And I couldn't find it on the website, but what is the shipping cost for 2 books.

Bought Gun Gack II a couple weeks ago. Well worth the money and enjoyed it probably more than Gun gack I which itself was very good

So, what's the "easy candle method of annealing" that appears in the excerpt of the book on the site?

Jevyod,
Yes, we autograph every book that goes out, and will personalize the signing as well, which a lot of people request when buying them as gifts. There's a space on the website for such additional info.
Media-mail shipping is included in the list price of every book, which normally takes 4-5 business days.

Remington40x,
It's a method developed by Fred Barker, who used to publish a lot in Precision Shooter. Through experimentation with temperature paint, Fred found that rifle brass could be annealed effectively by holding the neck in a candle flame until the case body got too hot to hold.

I just talked to Eileen and ordered Gun Gack II-- something to buoy my spirits after I get home from turkey hunting and face gobbler withdrawal.

When I first read of this method, several years ago, I thought "No way, it can't be that simple!" Ah yes, yes it is. Being something of a luddite, I embraced the candle method! Not the candle, just the method. Guy

John:
Thanks for that information. I have a bunch of .25-35 brass that I want to neck down and fireform to .219 Zipper Improved and I know I need to anneal it. How much simpler could it be than lighting a candle and holding the case in the flame.

The biggie is holding the middle of the case with the very tips of your fingers, the most sensitive portion. Turn the neck from side to side, so it heats evenly, then when it gets too hot to hold, drop it on a wet towel, and use the towel wipe the carbon off. I generally use a folded-up piece of paper towel, replacing it as needed.

MD...I tried the candle method but with tempilaq on my fingers, by the time it melted my fingers were smoking......must be doing it wrong. Should I wear fireproof gloves?

Nobody mentioned tempilaq or gloves... From my experience, when your fingers get too hot, drop the danged case onto the damp towel. Smoking fingers have got to be a bad thing! Guy

Bushrat,
Now that's funny! (But must admit that on a few occasions, after candling quite a few cases, my fingers have felt like they'd been smoked....)
