I need a carrier spindle head screw for my Savage 99 takedown, serial #18x,xxx (made around 1915). I bought one from Numrich (Numrich part #142440A) but it didn't fit; the diameter for the pin part and the threaded part were too large. They had the following measurements: OD of threads: .197", OD of pin: .136". Again, these were too big to fit in my action.
Numrich list two other carrier spindles for the Savage 99: one is for rifles with serial numbers of 90,000 or less, so it doesn't appear to be made for my rifle. The other is called "carrier spindle head screw, service part" This part has a longer threaded portion. Neither are in stock so I can't ask Numrich to measure them for me.
Do any of you wise Savage folks know what I need? Do you have one for sale?
Thanks!!
Roy Bob

I personally worked with Numrich to try and straighten out their inventory mess. They almost got it right. The one you need is the one they call as under 90,000. It should read as under 900,000 but I couldn't get that through their collective head. The so-called 'service part' is bogus and should not even be listed. Their are several on ebay. Here is one that should fit your gun. ebay screw

Lightfoot, your reply is very helpful. I was wondering if that would work in my rifle. Thanks so much.
Now, does anyone out there have a Savage 99 carrier spindle screw for under serial #900,000 they would like to sell?

Norm, the part I need is the carrier spindle head screw that keeps the carrier spindle head from spinning in the action. When you install it into the action it engages an indentation in the carrier spindle head and keeps it from spinning with the carrier. There is a picture of the one I need at the following Numrich web page: https://www.gunpartscorp.com/products/1586710Thanks!

Lightfoot, it wasn't clear to me that the one you feferenced was the right one. The description does not state "under 90,000" serial number. How did you know it was the right one?
