Made 200 Barrels {Kostyshyn} mine is 172 {257 Cal} they were custom made barrels for Professional match shooters. They made 200 custom barrels for IBS shooting competitors, not for the general public.
If you have one of their barrels you are lucky. Anyone have any of 1- 200 barrels? they were custom made barrels for Professional match shooters, Mine is in 257 weatherby and only put maybe 60 rounds through it ! I should get into it and see what it can do!> Enjoy

I knew Craig fairly well. I shot a lot of IBS back in the day when Kosty barrels were in their prime. His 30 caliber barrels were in high demand. I'm curious about a 257 barrel used in IBS competition. Match grade bullets have always been a problem for the 25 at that time, although Robinette makes them now.

Craig Kostyshyn made thousands of barrels. I had 5 of them myself, all .30 caliber 17 twist. He bought the barrel making equipment from Northwest Precision. After he closed up shop, Craig's barrel making equipment was purchased by Dan Muller of Wisconsin (MullerWorks Barrels). -Al

Ranting, have a world class gunsmith put that barrel on an action, don't let it sit in the corner.

Butch, I still have one Kostyshyn four groove 1:17 HV profile. Craig later offered a .30 cal. 6 groove configuration but they didn't meet with as much success as did his 4 groove .30's. Hope all is well with you and yours. -Al

All is good except an over abundance of rain. Craig made good barrels that a couple guys here used. They were good.

Craig's barrels were proof that a good barrel wasn't dependent on a straight drilled hole.

That was the first time we'd ever indexed the muzzle end at 12 o'clock. It worked so well on that barrel that everything after that got indexed as well. It helped -Al

Yup, I've seen barrels with bores going in weird ways that really shot well. I prefer chambering a straight one, but that doesn't guarantee a good barrel.

Huh, so how crooked of a hole are we talking? I have a 10tw 6mm Kosty barrel that Dan Muller gave me when he carted that rifling equipment to WI. It is VERY visible when looking through the bore. I figured it would shoot just fine, just haven’t come up with a suitable project for it.
Shoot straight, shoot often

I figured it would shoot just fine, just haven’t come up with a suitable project for it. The first one I had was off centered by .025 at the muzzle....very noticeable to the naked eye. When they are out, you simply have to index the muzzle, in my opinion/experience. You'll drive yourself crazy trying to tune unless the offset is at 12:00 or 6:00. If you're not willing to spend the extra time and effort to do this....and just want to let the offset fall where it falls after finishing the muzzle...my advice is to not mess with it. -Al P.S. I've seen some 'tomato stakes' become hammers after being indexed.

You've seen it, but can you explain it? I don't know enough about it. Sure. The muzzle end vibrates in an elliptical pattern with the greatest amount of 'dwell' time being at the top and the bottom of the vibration pattern. That's when you want the bullet to exit. Trying to tune a barrel whose muzzle is moving through the shorter time/faster changing segments of muzzle movement will give you fits, both in tuneability and repeatability. Often, the first clue to this is a barrel that shows marked horizontal shot dispersion as you go up/down in powder charge. -Al P.S. Obviously, this assumes the shooter is using wind flags and the horizontal is not wind/mirage induced.

Thanks. I had the idea of all the perturbations not favoring any particular axis. But that idea doesn't take into account the weight of the barrel acting in the vertical.

That's why I asked, and why I said what I had initially thought didn't take something into account.
