Thanks, John, much appreciated!

I don't see it in the online April issue - some other month?

Ditto. Did not see it in April-May online issue either?

It's in the June-July issue, which apparently is out on-line for some people.
I went to the Wolfe website and clicked on Handloader and the June cover photo comes up, with the 7x57 article listed.

JB I just saw one you did on a Rigby Highland stalking rifle. Pretty mad that you didn't call me so I could come fondle it! Or did you know how much slobber you'd have to clean off of it? I'll have to go check out this article on the 7x57.....

Tom,
Only had the Rigby for a short period, and as I recall you were in Texas. (Are you a resident down there now?) Otherwise would have called you.
With rifles like that, the companies like to loan them out as briefly as possible. Am getting a 9.3x74R Krieghoff double, probably in June, on the same sort of quickie loan....

I always pick Handloader at the Grocery store and will be looking for it. I like the 7mm mauser and owned one, sold it because I didn't care for the rifle- liked the chambering. Thanks for keeping us entertained.

I really enjoyed the article as well. The 7x57 is really a perennial favorite. I don't own one myself but I DO own a 7mm08, a 280 Rem, and a few 7mmRM so I feel like part of the family.

I actually got it in yesterday's mail - print edition.

John:
You've mentioned this before and you mentioned it again in the article: you've often used 7-08 data in your 7x57. My question is this: all things being equal, i.e. barrel length, both throats at SAAMI spec, same brand of primers, brass, powder, etc., how much velocity is generally lost using 7-08 data in the larger 7x57 case? I know there isn't a whole lot of capacity difference, but there is some. So for example, using Hornady's 9th edition, and assuming the velocities are accurate, if 47.5 grains of H414 yields 2800 fps with a 154-grain SP in the 7-08 from a 24 inch barrel, what would the approximate velocity be in the 7x57? I'm just curious about how closely the two rounds track.
Mike

Mike,
Depends on relative case-weight and, especially, throat length in the 7x57. A few have short enough throats that there's basically no practical difference in case capacity. In others there's a considerable difference.

Got mine in the mail today and read that story.Good stuff John.
I had a 270 before i put together my 7x57 and have used it more ever since.
Mostly these days i just load 139-140 grain Hornaday's and Nosler Partitions.
One needs to remember that all rifles are fickle and are individuals.
I do have a few boxes of the round nose Hornadays in 154 and 170 grain for special occasions.

Can't wait for it to show up. Only three 7x57s, so far. But, who knows what may show up?

Just solved the mystery. The new issue is on the Wolfe Outdoor site, but not the riflemagazine.com page where it can be downloaded.
When hard copies arrive before the e-edition, somebody needs to get their ass in gear. This ain't the first time by any means. I've also had the same problem after getting the email telling me it was available, then had to call them to make it so.
What fresh Hell is this?
