Don't know if this has already been posted, but this pilot was darn lucky. The guy who got him down had to be a bit nervous going up the tree. http://www.fox5ny.com/news/plane-stuck-in-tree-idaho

Hold my beer, and watch THIS!
Well...probably not.

Way to stick the landing!
They say everything happens for a reason. For me that reason is usually because I've made some bad decisions that I need to pay for.

"Crash landed" my a$$. There's no such thing. He did exactly what my old flight instructor always told me to do if there was no place to make an emergency landing - stall it out in a tree.

There a lot more to that than just stalling that onto a tree top! My father used to "stall" his Cub onto the runway at about 34-39 mph moving very much forward!!! Only way to come down "vertical" onto a tree top would be in a very stiff headwind WITH POWER!
They guy was darn lucky to say the least. Plenty of people have died in similar incidents impaled by branches or struts.
With that said, I'd take my chances in a Cub before about anything else! The recovery will be interesting for sure but that plane will likely live to fly another day.

That happened in Nam several times with Huey choppers.
I am..........disturbed.

Great landing. 😂
It didn’t hurt that the PA-18 is a very lightweight aircraft. Any heavier and it’s likely that gravity would’ve worked against him even more.

Going to retrieve the plane with a chopper, guessing Chinook .................... I was wondering how that recovery could be accomplished and didn't think of that ! ....... That would not only work but be quick & easy, too.

But it will probably cost as much as the plane is worth. Huey might work for a lot less money
Some mornings, it just does not feel worth it to chew through the straps!~

Nice thing about that aircraft is the 30 mph stall speed.
