The add from our supermarket tells us to celebrate the day. If no one minds, I'll pass. More beer for me

Did the French surrender without a fight at the battle of Pueblo, or just get the schit kicked out of them by a primitive third rate army?

Thing that sticks in my memory from days in Miami was that roofers liked Cinco de Mayo because of all the business that resulted from falling bullets.

Holiday made up by gringos to sell more beer. It sells a lot of piss-water corn beer Corona here. It's a trash beer in Mexico, except with the tourists. Its a trash beer everywhere, like Redstripe in Jamaica; Dos Equis, Tecate, Pacifica all used to go down well tho.

I will be celebrating on Cinco de Mayo since it is my 65 birthday!
BTW when I moved west in 1991 I had never heard of it, now back home the pandering mayors of Scranton and Wilkes Barre PA have Cinco de Mayo parades for the illegals there taking labor jobs from legal residents.

I've always wondered how well it would go over for Americans living in, oh lets say Juarez for example, flying our flags, having a parade and acting like a bunch of complete [bleep] on the 4th of July. I'm thinking not so well.

Mike Germans didn't seem to care when we had large cookouts for 4th of July. They either liked Americans or didn't. The fact we celebrated our holidays had nothing to do with it.

The left, democrats, liberals, communist, socialist, islamites, and globalist want power/control of the American people. They hate Americans, the Constitution, and the USA. They are all enemies and traitors of America. They are using immigration/illegals to change the demographics of our once great nation. Globalists are turning it into a 2nd rate country they can control. That is the end game! Educated Christians which can think and have guns cannot be controlled by government.

whats wrong with another excuse to BBQ and drink a few beers? The folks at the end of our street, refuse to speak english, and they fly the Mexican flag instead of the American flag. Come December we have lived on Pecos street 20 years. Philippe Martinez ( at the end of our street) still doesn't respect our flag , language, or traditions. I have talked to him several times with his daughter translating and he is a nice guy. He just doesn't do anything to make him American. Come cinco de mayo there will be 20 or 25 cars at the end of our street. Roger, I have seen your posts about your ancestors coming to America. It seemed like your great grandfather believed like mine. If you come here assimilate or go back home. My great grandfather died when my grandfather was 3. My great Uncle Frank raised his 2 little brothers and 2 younger sisters till they were old enough to get married and leave home. Uncle Frank was proud of Texas and America. The basic rule was you could speak Czech when you was home but we were Americans and you spoke English when you were any where but home My grandpa told me the worst whoopin he ever got was from speaking Czech at the town Mercantile. He was.whipped with a riding line right in front of the Mercantile and had to go inside to apologize to the store keeper for speaking a foreign language. I dont have a problem with being proud of your heritage, but you should also be proud of the country that took you in. Speak the language. Observe the traditions. Observe the holidays. I dont belive there is Czech- Americans, African- Americans or any other hyphenated Americans. Assimilate or go home 1qq Great post! As far as celebration goes, each day is a gift. Sunrise and sunset are worthy occasions...and besides, it's ALWAYS 5 o'clock somewhere!
Don't be the darkness.
America will perish while those who should be standing guard are satisfying their lusts.

Its a trash beer everywhere, like Redstripe in Jamaica; Dos Equis, Tecate, Pacifica all used to go down well tho. I remember going fishing on the Rio Grande as a kid with my grandparents, and seeing a small cluster of huts made from river cane that grew along the Rio Grande. Those folks were POOR! I mean even by Mexico standards. No electricity. Nearest store was probably Boquillas which was several miles away... But one old man would come down to fish from the river with a stick fishing pole, and sit on the river bank drinking Dos Equis... Even as a young boy, it stuck in my mind about how cheap that beer must be if someone THAT poor could afford to drink it all day, every day.

Never celebrated it, never will. I'm going to rake hay today, and then move it out of the field after it's baled. That's what my Cinco De Mayo will consist of.
However, if I don't find something to eat here at home for lunch, I might go run over to the local store and get a turkey sandwich. If I do, I'll have them put some mayo on it.
Does that count for anything?

Most people don’t know that back in 1912, Hellmann’s mayonnaise was manufactured in England. In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after its stop in New York. This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever delivered to Mexico. But as we know, the great ship did not make it to New York. The ship hit an iceberg and sank, and the cargo was forever lost. The people of Mexico, who were crazy about mayonnaise, and were eagerly awaiting its delivery, were disconsolate at the loss. Their anguish was so great, that they declared a National Day of Mourning, which they still observe to this day.The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5th and is known, of course, as Sinko de Mayo
