Open that bolt face up to another world of powder eatin, ear drum ringin, killin machines. If you like to stay in the medium calibers go .257wby or go big to the .300 RUM.

Overbored....heck ya...why....because I can

Last time I checked, a 300RUM did not fit a standard long action.....since the 264 is a "safe queen", go 6.5-06......

With that Rem action I'd go with the STW.Just open the boltface and you'd be good to go.

The 7STW is based on the 8mm Rem Mag, which is based on a 375 H&H. It requires a mag length action also.........

25-06AI shootin' a 100 gr. TSX would fill the void that the safe queen, 264WM leaves open. If you're stuck on a 6.5 cal, the 6.5-06 would surely whack anything you need it to.

25-06 all the way. AI it if that is your fancy.

The 100 TSX at 3350 fps would do what you want to do nicely.

Why not take the other calibers for long range shots and try something totally different and new: 9.3x62 !
O.K. it is not just what you would call a long range caliber.
But if my suggestion doesn't fit, I'd try the 6.5-284.

I hate to advise something so close to the 280AI, but here goes. I`d try a 270AI. with the 130 grain Accubonds I am willing to bet good money that 3300 fps is easily attained.

On another note, I have a 264 Win Mag custom, and since the 130 Accubonds arrived, I may have a few shooting irons for sale. A 130 6.5 at 3300 fps with the .488 BC just is all a guy needs. Light recoil and flat shooting.

I believe the STW action and the standard mag actions are the same. The only difference between them and the standard lon action is bolt face. The Ulra mag actions are different though because the feed rails are modified to accept a wider case. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

With that stock you've got to build something long rangish, I like the idea of the 6.5-06, but what about this one.

Open up that bolt face, make it a 7 WSM, with a long action you'd have plenty of room for those long bullets with high BC.

Check out this article and see your stock and future gun in action smile

I wanted that 7wsm gun so bad. All that stood in my way of bringing that home was the "wife". I was only a few minutes shy of saying "I would take it". I have thought about a WSM, but wanted a Mag bolt face action.

You are definitely correct about wider feed rails needed for the wider RUM..... If the 8mm Rem mag is based on the H&H case, which requires a mag length action for a max c.o.l. of 3.6", and the 7STW is a necked down 8mm Rem mag, how can it fit in a standard long action like the max c.o.l. 3.34" cartridges? Is this true in Remington 700 long actions only?

6mm/06 is a 240 Roy with available brass. 100 gr bullets at 400 yds = 1 dead prarie goat or muley.

Yepper it will do it, I've had a long love affair with the big 6's...

They will make pd's and chucks do some kind of Olga Korbit tricks...

I think it is unwise to ask about a new caliber on this site or read the posts.

You start out looking for one and end up with at least three that you need. Am adding to the list a 30-06AI on a M-70 long action throated out a bit...

That 130g is a sweet spot for the 6.5 and has occupied some serious thought time here.

Whatever you are willing to put up with, is exactly what you will have.

When your ship comes in. ... make sure you are willing to unload it.

PAYPAL, sucks and I will never use them again. I recommend you do the same.
