Looking for scopes with adequate eye Relief for a 7 mag. Newer shooter will be using this rifle also. What I’ve found so far - Nikon p5 2-10. 3.7-4” eye Relief. Any other suggestions with enough eye Relief?

Find an older Zeiss Conquest or newer Meopta Meopro 3-9x40. They have 4” or so of eye relief.

Maybe not the best mix.

My Tikka 7mag has been wearing a 2-12x VX6 for several years now with no hiccups. It's a very generous eyebox even at higher mags, glass is great.

In the same weight rifle 7 mag recoil is almost exactly the same as 30-06 shooting similar bullet weights. Neither the scope, shooter, nor animals shot will ever know the difference.

Any of the Leupolds will have at least 4" of eye relief on the most magnification, closer to 5" on lower settings. Burris FF-II will have slightly less eye relief and at about $200 is a good scope. It performs above it's price tag.

I have several of the Meopta 3-9X40 scopes and they are my favorite. Some of mine have Ziess badging, some say Cabelas, but it is the same scope. If you have a $500 budget I highly recommend them. I was able to pick up 2 of the Cabelas scopes when they marked them down to $250. Bought 2 more used. But even at $500 it is a lot of scope.

Most people don't really want the truth.

They just want constant reassurance that what they believe is the truth.

I'm not a big fan of full power 30-06 loads for a new shooter either.

Most scopes will be fine with a 7mm mag.

My preference is Leupold "3" series be it Vari X III, VX 3i, or anything in between. The "2" series also work quite well. I had a Vari X II 3-9x40 which rode on many rifles including a Remington 700 XCR in .375 H&H. I'm not that fond of the VX-Freedom line, perhaps just one bad sample, but I couldn't get it to focus properly. I won't recommend those.

My baby sister has a Nikon Monarch 3.5-10x on her 7mm mag. It works very well, too.

Most scopes that cost $200 or more will usually have enough eye relief and hold up well with the 7mag.There are many scopes in the $300-$500 range are really good and take care of the needs for most people.I personally like around 4 inches of eye relief on mine,so that's what I usually start looking for.

Great scope, have two.

The complaints I hear from reputable sources makes me a bit nervous. It seems to have served you well.

I'd have to think about it before taking one to Africa like you're done more than once...

This one's tough and I'd take it anywhere. Zeiss Victory. Sorta pricey, but I got it used. Mounted on an Ed Brown Damara .300 WM.

The newer shooter would only use this on very few occasions, so I just want a little buffer, just in case. Budget is negotiable, but I'm not looking to put the best glass on this particular rifle, I have nicer rifles for that. Any experience witht he Prostaff P5? I read somewhere that the relief was still 3.7" on 10x.

IMHO a 7 mag is not really a mag in the recoil dept,.anything with decent eye relief will fit the bill . You are overthinking it

7RM is more like an '06 regarding recoil.

Even the Bushnell 4200/4500 series with shorter ER than Leupold, makes a good scope for a 7RM.

Good glass, reasonable price. solid performance.

I've sent Conquests back for retro elevation turret, about $80 IIRC. They turn the wrong way but work well.

It's hard to beat a 3-9x40 Conquest, especially for the value back when they were closing them out in the $285 range.

Here's one on an HS Precision rifle, in Hunters Edge stock, after glass bedding, before paint.

Good eye relief, great duplex. Glass is as good if not better than a VX-3.

I may get ballistic tape for the std. turret. Cheaper than Kenton.
