Money is not an issue. What to own? CZ 557 Exclusive in 6.5x55 or Sako Bavarian Carbine in 270 win?

There You go! In the end it is your choice.

My choice was a bit whimpy. Went with the Mini CZ 527 in 6.5 Grendel & have been very pleased for a number of years now. Favor 100 to 129 gr project from the Grendel

I really wanted a Sako Bavarian in Swede. Ended up with a CZ. Sako really screwed the pooch IMO with the ejector design on the M85. Roll of the dice whether you get a good one or not. A gamble I deemed not worth it.

I keep hearing about this, and to be honest haven’t read up on it much yet, but there isn’t a fix for this?

As for the CZ, I’m not familiar with the 557. If it were me, I’d hold out for a 550, but I like CRF in my hunting rifles for the most part, and PF in target rifles.

The 557 replaced the 550.

FWIW,
I've owned over a dozen CZ centerfires, chambered among others in 17 hornet, 22 hornet 221 fireball, 6.5 x 55 SE, 308 Win and 9.3 x 62 plus rimfires.

I've owned over two dozen Sakos. from 17 Mach IV through 375 H&H.

I have two of the Bavarian Carbines in house. One in 308 Win, the other in 30-06 Springfield.

As you probably know the barrels on the Bavarians are +/- 20".

Both the CZ's and the Bavarians will have iron sights and set triggers.

IMHO, the fit and finish on the Sakos are way superior and the Sako actions are slicker than owl schitt.

Unless price is the main criteria, given the choice, between CZ and Sako, I'll go with Sako 13 times out of 10.

Now if you really want to up your game a skosh!

The Merkel K3 Extrem in 270 Win just might be the ticket

and I'd not be afeard' of a 20" barrel in a 270Win

[Linked Image]

And don't forget, if you think you need a longer barrel,

[Linked Image]

there is always the Bavarian Half-Stock!

Anywho, just one man's opinion, and that, plus a $1.79, would get you a cup of Joe at Waffle House!

ya!

GWB,
Those are beauties! I only own two Sakos, both M85s, but I like 'em just fine.

I’m aware. By “not familiar,” I meant I’ve not handled one. wink And that’s why I mentioned “holding out” for a 550, because while most are holding on to them, they do pop up once in awhile!

I’m not sure why CZ abandoned the CRF 550 for the PF 557, other than cost savings. Kinda sad, really.

Probably because the "CRF advantage" (myth) is not really needed in a 6.5x55 rifle used to hunt non-dangerous game.

The 557 also has a faster lock time and is a more accurate platform. The 20" model is ideal for threading and a suppressor set up as well.

I agree that CRF isn't "needed," but some of us still want it anyway, haha. I foolishly sold my 550FS, and will be looking to replace it in time. For right now, the 557 isn't even on my radar. If I'm going with a PF action, it'll be a custom I spec myself, especially since I prefer a two-stage trigger to a single. The SST on the 550 was a somewhat unique feature that I do enjoy, however. Tuh-may-toe, tuh-mah-toe, as they say.
