I know the weatherby mags generally have a fair amount of free bore. Do I need to be careful about not getting too close to the lands? How far back from the lands do you generally stay when loading this cartridge?

Good luck reaching the lands .
I’d start at mag box length and if it doesn’t shoot like you want seat deeper until it does .
Rabid Creedmoorians ring my doorbell ... as I open it a crack they speak : "Do you have a moment to talk about our Lord and Savior , 6.5Creed?"

You won't be able to reach lands, likely won't even get close. Start at max length that will still give enough neck grip, and work your way back.

The Weatherby freebore issue has been blown out pf proportion. Today's Weatherby rifles' freebore is nowhere near what the original ones were because we have better powders. If you are shooting TTSXs, the like to be seated DEEP, all the way to the crimping cannelure. See my other post for target data.
A good principle to guide me through life: “This is all I have come to expect, standard lackluster performance. Trust nothing, believe no one and realize it will only get worse…”
