Just recently picked up a 99 G in 300 Savage. Dates to 1937. When I took it down and looked down the barrel, was pristine. No copper or fouling of any sort in chamber or bore. Can't say for sure, but I would hazard a guess its never been fired. Bolt has zero signs of ignition. I could be wrong, but like to think......... Pictures are in Image Gallery in Oldotter 1937 G title. blushFergot how to get em here. Maybe sombody schmart can do it for me.

Very nice. I’ve been thinking I may need to pick up a good G someday to keep my prewar EG company. Nice rifle indeed!

Old friend met thru crossing paths for years at gun shows. Father in law and myself get tables at same show as my friend. He showed my this one back in January. He knows I'm somewhat of a Savage 99 loonie, and held it for me till I was in a position to buy. Said he had it for decades, and couldn't remember exactly when or where he got it. Great guy to do that for me. My sub-par photos don't do it justice. I can't wait to put my Lyman 29 1/2 on it and sight in. Already think this one will go up north this November to fill the freezer. Its a Savage, so I know it will shoot great.

Nice rifle, what are the differences on a G , from say a EG? I see the takedown feature.

That's pretty much it. EG is the solid frame G.

Had a early late 20,s 99 take down in 250 so it must have been a G also. Mine was rough compared to the 300 Savage.

Nice 99. I have a G that looks much like that but it's a 1921 version. There's no sign of case hardening on the lever on mine. What's the deal with that, depend on the year? Mine too is in fairly good shape except for a few nicks out of the stock in the usual places. I also put a lightfoot scope mount on it and a Nikon 4-9x40 on it which kind of obviates the break down part. It shoots nice if a bit of a kicker with heavier bullets. I tend to stay with the 125 to 150 grain for that reason. I've had it for years but just got it out last year to play with so it's still new to me.

The case hardening has a tendency to fade. If it was stored in an open area the sun may have helped it along.

It's not blued is it?

Oldotter comes through again! Standup triple, if not a home run!

Bring it to PA in August, please!

John, my neighbor in WV stopped by while I was up there last Monday. He had a pouch with a couple Morels in it. I'm looking for some Lions Mane.

I'm not greedy, I just want one of each.
