could someone tell me what the standard globe insert is that most people use when shooting 100 yd. smallbore? just acquired a remington 541x target 22rf. it has a williams target reciever with a .050 aperture. not sure what brand of globe sight the front is, but assuming it is a williams also. can't find any inserts on the net to fit it. any ideas?

Check with Sinclair international,Champions choice and champions shooters supply for aps to fit.
As to size, thats very individual and my suggestion is get a set of them so you can find what your eye likes. I tend not to want a huge circle around the bull, others like a very large one. Lot of it has to do with your eye relief person to person and rear ap size also.
I also prefer the acrylic inserts.... but an adjustable Gehman type or Anschutz would be my choice if I ever shoot a match rifle in competition instead of a service rifle. But those buggers are not cheap at all.

I use the an adjustable iris on all myy rifles, because the light changes constantly when shooting outdoors, and the targats change from 25, 50 to 100 and 200 yards. Cat
scopes are cool, but slings 'n' irons RULE!

The size that gives you the best score is the one to use. In other words you have to shoot to find out!

These are good observations. I'd also add that it depends on the shooter's age and condition of his eyes. I have found that as I got older I needed a bigger front aperture and also a thicker annular ring. I have seen a couple of good articles on this subject, but can't recall the sources.

Brownells carries a wide assortment. They have a free catalog too!
