Seems like some are mixing red dots and magnifiers from different manufacturers - especially when buying used.
For those who have tried it - is this the path to unhappiness and dissatisfaction?
Is it better (sometimes? always?) to choose both from the same company?

Doesn’t matter. As long as they line up, you’re fine.

Do you have much experience with cheaper magnifiers? Seems like a place a guy could save some money after buying a quality optic like an aimpoint

Form: Thanks.
ARK: One of the options I'm looking at for an AR in 5.56 is an Aimpoint PRO with a magnifier. The Aimpoint seems to have a solid reputation - pun intended - and that's the component that I most want to rely on. I could get by with the magnifier going belly up but not the red dot - hence my thinking that the magnifier is where I could save a little if an attractive deal comes along.
I've got cheap red dots on a couple of rimfire rifles but I have no experience with magnifiers.

I don't know why you need a magnifier. I've shot good groups with a red dot at 100 yards and could still easily go out to 200-300 yards for deer sized targets. If you need a magnifier, I'd rather go with a scope.
