Out of all my rods, I think that I like the Bore Tech rods the most.

Just picked up a Dewey last week. Like it. Now I need to figure out what solvent to clean the copper streaks out of my barrel.

Believe I have at least one of all the brands mentioned so far, except perhaps Parker-Hale. They all work well.
Most are coated, but some are not. Have never seen any effect of that through my bore-scope on the throats of my rifles, though some people claim it happens. However, I do use rod guides on most rifles.
The one model I can really recommend for those who prefer take-down rods (which can be pretty handy) is the Montana X-Tremes. Unlike the cheap take-downs often sold in sporting good stores, they're very stiff and sturdy.

MD - What is your preferred solvent? Maybe a rundown of how you typically clean your rifles. Thanks.

I have more cleaning rod's than I care to count, Love the dewey and tipton except for the fact they have brass ends that can give a false reading of copper. Bore Tech proof positive rod's with a rod guide is the best way to clean a rifle.

I use Ivy-SS-rods. A polished SS rod does not hurt the bore like a coated or the dreaded carbon fiber rods. A top quality bore guide is the big secret.

I have a couple of old Belding & Mull steel rods. Occasionally I polish then with 600 grit cloth. Always use a fitted bore guide.

I’ve been using Dewey for a long time with minimal issues. I do like the Parker Hale jag tips for patches.

I used Parker-Hale rods for years and like them very much but have bought Dewey rods in recent years just because they are available. I like coated rods but not carbon fiber. No matter what solvent I use to clean, I finish off with Hoppes #9 (with nitro-benzene) just so the rifle will smell like a rifle should! GD

1LongBow: Its like pulling my own teeth but I have had to somewhat let go of my wonderful Belding & Mull super strong (and straight!) stainless steel rods and attachments for all calibers (22 and up). I have acquired numerous coated rods now mostly by Dewey in the last 10 years or so. When I am cleaning my friends (lazy friends - of which I have way more than my share!) Rifles I still use the Belding & Mull systems as those Rifles almost always require a LOT of elbow grease. I even have a Belding & Mull steel back-pack outfit which only gets used rarely. i do take it along on Big Game Hunts and Varmint Safaris - for "if it's needed" occasions. ALWAYS use a proper "bore guide". Been there - learned that. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

I have Pro-Shot and Tipton. I really like the Tiptons. I carry a Klean-Bore .mil style in the field.

I just found an old 1 qt bottle of the old Hoppes #9 in a factory sealed cardboard box.

Good stuff, that. I used to use Hoppe's as an aftershave too. A dab behind the ears and females would flock to me. (Never mind they were mostly Labradors!)

Gnoahh: I have a Hoppe's #9 "air-freshener" in my VarmintMobile! People have actually tried to talk me out of it and/or steal it! Hold into the wind VarmintGuy
