Looking for options---- I just bought a '99 takedown, 250-3000 that has all the metal in the white. I suspect someone left it in the damp and it rusted, although there are no pits.Reblueing isn't really an option, so wondering what options I might have ? Thank you, Rodney

If it's bare, why not reblue? That leaves Browning, Cerakote, or Krylon glossy black. Just kidding of course.

It really does beg the question why not reblue.

Of all the possibilities, rust bluing is the one good one you can do yourself, the most historically appropriate, and the cheapest. The downside is it requires the most hand labor and a place to do it (although in basic terms you can do it in your kitchen).

As if ANY kitchen was ever YOUR kitchen.... More likely to be "Black and Bluing"! (And not all on the rifle..any time I want to see a REAL Savage, I try "kitchen gunsmithing"!).

I would Cerekote before I would rattle can spray paint it. I did Cerekote one old gun that had been rusted & pitted, didn't remove the pits but I am pretty happy with the results. I stuck with a traditional blue black color. There are several options if you want it as close to a factory finish as possible. There are do it yourself options for Cerekote also.

Hey, Jim. I thought I put just kidding at the end of the rattle can post. Sometimes when things get slow, some of us, get a little sideways to the thread. Roy did Cerekote a couple rifles a few years back. They were parts guns that he brought back to life. Not the biggest hit on a COLLECTORS forum. But, I kind of liked them. I probably would not do it, but they looked good in his safe.:)

Reloading in the living room: check (double check)More beer than food in the fridge: check (double check)Guns and gear all over the place: check (double check)Seat up on the toilet: check (double check)There are 11 dogs having breakfast in our kitchen right now! Five live here, the others are "guests" while their owners (my son and nephew) are at a local festival called "Rock on the Range". Our house is my "shop" where all kinds of stuff happens. The kitchen is the "clean room"! My wife (Sunshine, a.k.a. Kim) heartily approves of anything I do here. My lathes, milling machine, grinders etc. stay in the garage to prevent metal chips on the floor since Sunshine and I are both barefoot most of the time! She promotes my delinquency at every opportunity! We took last Wednesday off to go fishing on Lake Erie. Maxed out on walleye and yellow perch. Thursday's breakfast was awesome! The garage is not climate controlled so all reloading takes place in the kitchen. Sunshine can drink me under the table anytime so she keeps the fridge full. Guns and gear are confined to one room except for "in process" work in the kitchen and the Galil hanging on the back of the headboard. There is a sign in the bathroom that says "Please put seat up when you're done." Apologies to the OP for the hijack. Life is GRAND!

The old "he never puts the seat down" rant/argument contributed in large part to my last divorce 20 years ago. Came to learn afterward that she was referring to the lid, and I was referring to the seat (which I always had put back down out of respect). I never put the lid down- what's the point? Why is it even there anyway? In the end, semantics bit me in the butt.

The lids are there to keep the cats and dogs from drinking out of the toilet and then wanting to play kissy face.

(I know of guys who have done it by the way) mostly working guns that need a camo/non-glare finish. It is easy to re-apply:) I have been away so am behind on this one.
