Well, I just had a beautiful spring morning. I walked in to the sounds of hens and a distant gobble. I made my way to a hedgerow and the line of our lease, and this bird was on the new plowed ground raising cain. He was by his self, I couldn`t believe it. I pulled 1 call out, my slate and favorite striker for it. This guy was a gobbling machine. no crow or owl went unanswered even the lightest clucks got hammered. It took him about 20 minutes to leave his strut zone and come looking. I was planted under a cedar and about 10 yds from the edge of the field. He just was wiley enough to push my range. I prepare for the worst case and needed it today. I estimated him at 50 yds, and when the trigger broke, so did he, flat rolled him. I have had a longest shot this year of 30 yds and when he was out in an open field, I knew I would not have a chance to get him closer unless I had used a decoy. I quit using them a few years ago. No blinds, no dekes. I had a blessed day and hope you guys do to. This is the very reason I shoot the equipment I shoot, and fine tune it to as good as can be made to shoot. No 3", no baby mags, no 16 or 20 ga, just some days once in a while, you need everything you got.

Nice Bird..sounds like it was more of a peacful hunt...whatd he have for a beard? Are you gonna shoot one with the "big 10" this year? What is your BEST combo, choke/shot size, for the SP10. I have one identical and smoked one at 42yds the other night with a Kicks .685 and Federal 2oz 5's..He weighed 20#'s and had a 10.5 in beard.. I would post a pic but it was on my cell phone.. 721

I`m really liking the weight and all of this one right now. This bird had 13/16th and 15/16" spurs and a paint brush thick 8 3/8" beard. I ought to take the SP 10, as I have never rolled one with it. I killed my first bird this year with a BPS 10. I use a .680" in the SP 10 and the Winchester Hi-Velocity 2 oz #6. Works great.

Man you need to go back to work and save one or two for the rest of us, or tell us when dinner is. Either one will work Congrats on yet another nice bird.

You guys just try and make it sound bad, but I know better. Anytime you want to make it. The wife is off today and Friday. Works this weekend. Hospital hours are ruff.

Congrats. I finally got my first of the year today. Didnt compare to my wifes but with all the pressure they get here Ill take it.
On a side note how do you like your SP10? Currently I use an O/U 10 and have been thinking about picking up a SP10. Any advice you can offer?

I love everything but the weight. At 50 I am not as spry as at one time. The fit, function, and pattern is great. I still wanna bust one with mine.
I had a Dr. visit today and found I have high blood pressure, and high blood sugar, so maybe once the meds start working on me I`ll be feeling more like my old self, and ready to try out that fine shotgun.

Thanks for the input. I really like my 10 but Ive been thinking about setting it aside for an auto.
Sorry to hear the bad news. Hopefully the meds take care of everything in short order. Im not 50 yet but sometimes I notice father time is catching up to me. I could go up and down mountains all day without a thought. I cant say that anymore.

By golly, I`m gonna take mine tomorrow. SP 10 in tow. I hunted some new ground this morning and no gobbles. I had a friend that has killed a few like 7 turkeys fool with 2 longbears together today around the noon hour (while I was at the Dr.) I actually had calls from him while the Doc was telling me what was what. He wants me to come with him tomorrow. He has to leave by 8:30 and said I could stay and have it to myself. I will help him, or if luck is with us those 2 might get double teamed.

Congrats again Tim. Another fine bird!!! Know you are having a blast. Nothin like Turkey hunting.
We were calling the cows tonight. My wife started yelling their names and was answered by a loud gobble about 60 yards down the hill. Seems this bird decided to spend the night here. Every time she would call he would gobble. I tried it too and got the same results. Don't think he would be too hard to get in the morning but I'll let him pass. Just didn't see too many young birds this year and hate to thin them out even more. Maybe next year.
Congrats again.
Jim

vexter, I ran across this deal and passed it to a friend as I already have my SP10. This is not a bad price, considering new ones are going for $1559 at Gander Mountain.... http://www.gunsinternational.com/detail.cfm?id=100004725&string=cid=235

Thanks Kimber7man. That will save me a lot of $$. I've checked around my area and the best deal I could find was $1498 plus fees and tax.

Congrats on the fine bird!
Tim, what are ya'll speaking of when refering to the 11-87 spring? I assume you are refering to lightening the pull?
If so, please point me in the right direction as I have one I'm inetending to lighten before long.
Thanks,

You bet, it is a lighter gauge spring that helps so much it isn`t funny. It is a Patriot trigger tune up spring, I found these on Gunbroker. No contact info at all in the instructions. I`ll look for the item on Gunbroker and paste a link if I find it. Found it, you will want one. http://froogle.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=70730036

Thanks Tim!
I've got it on order right now. Should make a great improvement on my 11-87.
