Andy Rooney was one in a million. At the end of '60 Minutes' he usually had his own 10-minute segment that, unbelievably, was never censored by CBS. He's probably the only one who could have gotten away with this. May he rest in peace.

Andy Rooney once said . . .

We did not go to the aid of certain foreign countries and risk our lives in wars to defend their freedoms, so that decades later they could come over here and tell us our constitution is a living document; and open to their interpretations.

I don't hate the rich; I don't pity the poor. I know pro wrestling is fake, but so are movies and television. That doesn't stop you from watching them.

Yeah, those alleged Rooney diatribes are too true for him to have actually spoken them on TV.

Yep, he did. I use to watch him virtually every week and I remember many of those on the list specifically. For example, when he said, "I think that if you feel homosexuality is wrong, it is not a phobia, it is an opinion." I just about shouted, "Yes!" at the TV.

I remember him referring to homosexuality as a "stinky habit".

Nope................not even that one. Which could not be verified by tapes of 60 Minutes...........and which was vociferously denied by Rooney himself.

Rooney's brief suspension by CBS for including homosexual unions as a member of a group of individual behavioral choices that shortened life is true. As is his rather graphic letter to The Advocate.....which excerpts can be found online.

From accounts which can be verified, he referred to homosexuality as "bad taste".

Rooney’s letter to the Advocate represents a painfully honest attempt on his part to come to terms with his own attitude toward homosexuality and homosexual practices—in the wake of his televised comments about “homosexual unions” and other causes of “premature death.”

He does not mince words: “Do I find the practice of one man introducing his penis into the anus of another repugnant? I do. Is it ethically wrong and immoral behavior? It seems so to me, but I can’t say why, and if a person can’t say what he thinks, he probably doesn’t have a thought, so I’d settle for thinking it’s merely bad taste.”

This took place in 1990. By 1994 it was all over except for the fat lady singing.

Well....the LGBT and GLAAD community kept it alive until after Rooney's death in 2011. After his death, the Advocate again referred to their reporter Chris Bull's interview of Rooney, and the racial statement that Rooney denied having said. Bull had no tapes or notes to prove it.
