Browsing eBay one evening late I found a new PTG reamer in 6.5-300 Weatherby. I bought it without thinking the next day I went pack and there was a reamer print which showed it only had a total of .307 (Numbers off top my head) of throat and lead. Anyways it made me kind of happy. Problem is loading for it.

I know there was the 6.5-300WWK which may be the concept for this reamer.

It was suggested to me to use 26 Nosler data.

I am just looking for input on where I should start once get the rifle built and start loading for it

Yes I have done that previously, along with against the breaker print for PTG SAAMI 6.5-300 Wby. This is the 6th Weatherby I am building myself and can tell you by looking at it, it doesn’t have any of the standard Weatherby freebore.

I guess I don't understand your .307 number. The SAAMI print looks to have less freebore than that.

The gunsmith will cut 1" off the muzzle. Have him run the reamer in that 1" section, you will have what is called a "neck checker". This will give you a dimension on exactly what you have with seating depth easily and quickly.

129g RLAB should work very well with that dimension, but the SAAMI print has a ton of freebore(throat) on it.

I guess I should put it out there I am my own gunsmith. Second generation to be exact. The reamer I have is not a SAAMI spec and doesn’t have the amount of free bore the Factory/SAAMI has. The throat and lead total up to .377 where the SAAMI print shows that the total throat and lead with freebore is .9551

That measuring from where the brass should end to where the reamer stops cutting.

The 26 Nosler has .2039 which means my reamer had more throat and lead then 26 Nosler but not as much as a Factory 6.5-300 Wby so a wild guess tells me that 26 Nosler Data would be a good place to start.

The Nosler shows a 93 grain capacity for the 26 Nosler and only 88 for the 300 Weaherby. I always thought the Weatherby was larger. In comparing similar sized cases like the 7 Rem. and Weatherby the Weatherby could take up to two more grains of powder than the Rem. this is some what skewed by the lower SAAMI pressure rating for the 7 Rem.

I had a long throated 7RM that I could use Weatherby data with as mine was freebored with anything shorter than a 175 Matchking.

I think in your rifle you could work up to within two grains of the published 6.5x300 data. I would just watch the chronograph and it should tell you when your near max.
