Mike, Your wanting to shoot some heavy for caliber bullets, which I am sure you are aware of. Nosler # 8 gives the following for the 280 Ackley Improved. 175 gr AccuBond and Partition most Accurate = IMR 7828 54.5 gr most accurate, but slow 26" barrel = 2644 fps 90% capacity. Highest velocity for same powder but with 58.5 gr = 2828 fps 96% case capacity. RED LINE LOAD Hornady 175 gr bullets does not show most accurate Hornady 175 gr ELD -X and InterLock fastest load IMR 7828 59.5 gr = 2800 fps that is their RED LINE LOAD . Hornady used 24" barrel. I have always believed that the 7mm is at it's best in the 140-160 grain bullets. I think that a well placed quality bullet like the Nosler Partition 160 gr would anchor an elk just as well as a 175gr bullet. Just my opinion. One more thing, neither Nosler or Hornady shows a load using RL 26.

I load 175 eldx with a below max load of 7828ssc and get 2880 in a 24 inch barrel. No pressure signs and sub half minute accuracy.

Thanks for the info. .

Not much data on the 280Ackley with heavy for caliber bullets , I've got H-4831sc , H-1000 & 7828ssc they'll get me by . Need to cut back on chasing more and more loads anyway .

Here is the Speer link for the 280 Rem. https://www.speer-ammo.com/reloading/rifle Gives you an idea of the velocity ranges.

Here is Hodgedons data for the 280AI http://www.hodgdonreloading.com/data/rifle It lists most of the powders you mentioned.

Berger and Nosler has some more info too.

Lots of info on the Long Range Hunter forum, take it for what it is worth. https://www.longrangehunting.com/threads/loads-for-280ai-is-175-too-heavy.192657/

I am like Gramps my 280AI has a 1-10" twist and I shoot mostly 140-160 grain bullets in it. The 168-180s go in my 1-9" 7RM better.

With the 280AI and any powder in or slower than H4831 range it is hard to find a bad load, I haven't so far.

Nosler manual #4, Black one: standard 280 for bolt guns

Asterisk indicates their most accurate load tested, velocity is 2930 out of a 24" barrel

Do not underestimate the 175g Nosler long ranger accubond, I found them to be very accurate in the 280 AI.

I bought a couple boxes of the long range Accubonds, two different weights. I have a 26” 280 AI with 9” twist in a premium barrel. I’ve been busy with other calibers/cartridges and have not done any work with it yet on loads. I was hoping RE 26 would work well.

The only animal I was planning to use this on was coyotes. Thankfully, trappers have done very well with thinning those rascals out. I only saw one coyote on my property this last winter.

I’m curious, I’ve heard that the long range version of the Accubonds are more fragile than the standard Accubonds. Anyone use these bullets on bigger game? Elk?

I prefer classic.

I loaded enough RL26 to get close to 2800 in a 22" barrel, seated a 180 Scenar and called it good. Maybe I underthinked it smile.

LR have to be frangible - else they wouldn't open/expand at long range where velocity is much lower . So yes the LR accubonds will be be more fragile than standard Accubonds at close range .
It's why the 'thin jacket target bullet' Amax is/was so popular on LR shots .
