While I don't know any Smith's doing the work on a regular basis, I just ordered a prefit barrel from xcaliber for a Savage for my wife.

30-06 cut down makes a nice .41 cal. seat bullets with a 41 mag seater and size with an '06 die.

Went to meet a fella to pick up parts he was at the Market Hall gun show in Dallas and saw a Ruger American there in 350 Legend brand new in the box $420 ish threaded barrel and picatinny type mount ready to rock and roll.... Pardon my ignorance, but is the barrel threaded for a suppressor or a muzzle brake?

Yes sir it was threaded with a thread protector.... google says 1/2x28 so the standard thread will let you jump whatever direction you wish....

Well if wanting to use wildcat on the Mauser action you have limited options per Ohio. Three choices come to mind. The easiest is a 458x2 American. Cartridge was originally established for a bolt gun (done on a Rem action). Next you could simply use the SAAMI 450 Marlin. Lastly you could use the 444 Marlin with its semi rimmed case, should carry enough gap to feed using claw actuation has a .514” rim, obviously the other two are rimless at .532”. Both .458s have an abundant supply of spitzer and round nose as well as flats. The .429 has less choice in spitzer and rounds, however Cutting Edge Bullets (Maximus 270gr BT) and Hawk Bullets (275-400 gr) offer some. Twisted right the 444 Marlin could be very effective in range power with slightly less recoil than the other two. Remember Ruger did the 44 mag on the 77 platform which utilized a rimmed case, would think a good smith could tailor the Marlin to feed well.

.411 Ryan.
Basically it duplicates or exceeds .405 WCF performance in a Ohio legal (under the current DNR regs) straight walled .472" belted head cartridge that headspaces on the belt & is advertised feeding through bolt or other action sized for a 30-06.
The .405 WCF loaded with the 300 gr Hornady SP is one of the better cartridges in both terms of energy & trajectory that fits the Ohio DNR regs so the .411 Ryan should be as good or better in a bolt action.

Thank you for all the replies and suggestions. Do any of these wildcats require modifying the action side rails to feed properly from the magazine (on a Mauser, that is)?
