G'day to everyone. I'm looking for a reamer to buy or rent for the 6.5 Mashburn Super. Would like on with a removable pilot so I could use it for the 6.5 & 270. Anyone with info shoot me a PM. Thanks.

When the 6.5 Mash. Sorry first came out the Speer lab in Idaho did some Chrono tests and they were getting 3400 fps with the 140gr Speer bullet. Nothing to sneeze at for sure but would like some high BC bullets for the 270 caliber.

Evidently there are not enough 6.5’s available to suit everyone. Why not go 6.5 X 50 BMG?

Should be an interesting project and rifle.

Curious as to sourcing a used reamer rather than having the reamer made. Too expensive?

I could have one made it PT & G for $169.00 but would rather rent as it would most likely be a one time build. Probably wouldn't burn out the barrel in my lifetime.

Not to rain on your parade, but it will be a WHOLE LOT less expensive to go 26 nosler.

I have a slug of wild cats

consider the cost:

Reamer
Full length sizer
bullet seater

You are looking at $430 before the gunsmith gets his hands on it.

Forster benchrest die set is $92 and you do not have to worry about a reamer. I can suggest a great gunsmith that has one that is world class.

Loads are proven and available on line for the 26 Nosler, saving barrel life. Figure 800 rounds of barrel life with stock reamer, I would shorten the leade.

Best wishes

I think 3400 fps is pretty hot. The STW, Nosler and 6.5x300 Weatherby are maxing out at around 3400. I would think the Mashburn would be about 100 fps behind at the same pressure. Similar to the 300WM and 300 Weatherby. But in 7mm the Mashburn seems to hit a sweet spot and is very close to the 7 STW maybe the same in 6.5?

Kieth, I'll do the work myself and I already have the dies so all I need is the reamer and if I had a good drawing I could just make it, but it would be easier to find one to rent. I've been building wildcats for nearly 50 yrs so it ain't my first rodeo. Thank you for your thoughts though but wouldn't own one of the Noslers cartridges or RUM's

Ask PT&G they can send you the measurement diagram. Clymer and C4D list it as well. Also the same for the 6.5x300 Win. but I like the Mashburn better for the longer neck.

Yeah, I like that longer neck as well. I have the 7mm Mash super and it runs right with the 7mm STW with less powder.

Yes seems to have hit a sweet spot that is not replicated in 30 caliber. A 6.5 would be nice and a perfect balance between the 264 and the 6.5x300 Weatherby which might be too much of a good thing (the Weatherby and STW). When I was reading a lot of Warren Paige I always wanted a 6mm, 7mm & a 33 Mashburn as the all around battery.

Mashburn had a long version of the magnums but always favored the Super which performed almost the same especially with the powders available at the time.

Finally bit the bullet and had a Mashburn Super body/shoulder reamer made so I could use different pilots for different calibers. Haven't picked up the 6.5 barrel yet but do have a nice 25" 270 barrel waiting to be chambered. My first one though is a 8mm with a 26" barrel I should have ready to stock in another few days. I just wish someone was making good high BC 8mm bullets but I think a 200 gr Accubond at 3200 fps will get an old bulls attention.

248 grain Hammer https://hammerbullets.com/product/323-248g-hammer-hunter/ Not too shabby.

Boddington used the 220 Sierra, it seems to have a heavier jacket than most Sierras.
