Not being a real pistol aficionado but only a casual hand gunner, I’m thinking of switching some of my battery around a bit. I’d like to get a 10mm and admit to placing of aesthetics up as a high priority — I really like the classic “1911-look”, for example, that of the Kimber models. I also would want a 6” barrel.
So without a thought to further aftermarket accessorizing or tweaking, which (Kimber?) qualifying OTC pistol would you suggest? And I’m a lefty.
Thanks.

If a 1911 style, Dan Wesson would be my choice. How 'bout a Sig? I love everything about this pistol.

Gen 4 Glock 20 would be nice. I have a Gen 3 G20SF that I like pretty well. I'm a lefty also. With the Gen 4 you can switch the mag release to the right side.

Also bought a PARA Elite LS Hunter (that is now the Remington Hunter) that has a 6" barrel and light rail... If the Kimber had been available before I bought the Remington I would have probably gone that way as I don't really have the need for the light rail...that said it is a very accurate shooting gun... The reason I like the Remington and Kimber over the Springfield, DW and other long slide 1911s is that I don't care for front strap checking.... The Springfield is not bad as it isn't really "checking" but still just prefer smooth... Bob

I'm going with the Ruger Stainless Target. It has a 5" barrel but I'm dont care for the 6" guns.

The Dan Wesson is probably the best bet of all the models mentioned. Just get a model with an ambi. safety and you're good to go (or install it yourself - it's not hard). I've been shooting the 10mm since 1996 and shot a lot of the models available. I love the Glock 20 (with a 5.5" barrel) for it's simplicity, durability, and comfort while shooting. The G40 is nice, but just seems big with little gain over a custom barrel in the G20. The 1911's have great aesthetics and triggers but only hold 9+1 rounds at best. They also tend to be a little heavier than the plastic crowd of guns. Recoil feels less in the Glock, even though it's lighter, I think because of the wider grip. I don't like the 6" 1911's but that's personal preference. If you've got the dough, STI makes (or used to) some impressive 2011 10mm's that will turn heads, offer the single action trigger, and aren't too heavy as the grip is all plastic. 2011 magazines are a picky though.

One more thing...
Whatever you do, get a model with adjustable sights! The 10mm ammunition available ranges from super mild to wild, and getting POA/POI in alignment with fixed sights is futile. For the life of me, I cannot figure out why manufacturers even offer fixed sights on a 10mm - likely just a cost saving measure and suckers fall for it everyday. It's not like they are pocket carry CCW guns.

The most esthetically pleasing 10mm would have to be the Glock 20. Hands down.

It doesn't sound like you've shot a G40. They are much easier to shoot accurately than a G20, not that it's hard to shoot accurately. The extra barrel inch makes it more stable and absorbs recoil as well. The trigger is also a bit crisper.
Dan Wesson's are nice, but they are no Les Baer.

Dan Wesson's are nice, but they are no Les Baer. I have one. With a custom Bar-Sto barrel. Recoil is indeed less than a g20. All my 10mm glocks have aftermarket triggers. Accuracy isn’t an issue with either. Personally I don’t think the gains of the longer slide and barrel warrant the weight increase while packing it at 10,000’ elevation.

I really like 1911 pistols and have had a Kimber since shortly after they started making them. But, I ended up getting a Tangfolio EAA Witness Hunter 10mm. 6" barrel and 14 round capacity with a very good single stage trigger has a lot going for it. Build quality, finish, and accuracy is excellent.

The 40, at 34.45 oz, does weigh 3.78 oz more than the 20, at 30.69oz. Leave a couple rounds out of the mag, maybe, but never found 3.78 oz troubling, even at 10K.
