Older eyes are no longer loving peep sites. Was wondering if red dot, reflex or something traditional is what some of you may have tried?

Mostly a hog gun for those 50 - 70 yard shots.

I’d get a holosun red dot of some flavor in the ~$150 range and one of the mounts that replace the rear sight . Easy peasy.

Have no idea what sort of mounting arrangements are available for those tough little suckers, but a little 1-4, or 2.5 is tough to beat for short-range shooting, and I like red dots a good bit myself.

Crazy Ivan's sks scope mount is the last one I used. There's a few other options, without using the receiver cover...
I agree on the Weaver K4

Don't know if this is a given but the two people I know that scoped them said the mounts eventually shot loose in less than a couple of hundred rounds.

The reviews on the ones Midway sells were mixed. Seems they often require a good bit of hand fitting to be secure. One reviewer said his example fit the Yugos well. A red dot should stress a mount much less than even a pretty light scope.

Funny how the Yugos went from "junk bond" status to pretty expensive and desireable. Sorry I missed out on that opportunity, but I did mange to pick up a nice Howa Mini for that useful little round.

sell the SKS, get an AR platform. Thats what I did.
I got one CBC ar in 76239 and put 1-4.5 on it.... love it.
here is complete kit but the stripped lower, almost identical to what I got.

Primary Arms prism in 1X or 3X rate consideration here. I have the 3X on my 7.62x39 and really like it.

They have adjustable diopter. Older eyes appreciate that (mine do).

Also the reticle works without batter power, but can also be illuminated.

Low mount capability for the AK/SKS.

SKS is notoriously tricky to scope properly.

Dust cover mounts do not work.

You can drill and tap the receiver for a side mount, which is a little tricky and mounts the scope quite high with most available options. Given the distances involved, I probably wouldn't do that.

A better option is to get a scout mount that replaces the rear sight and put a red dot sight on there. Pick a red dot sight that mounts the lowest. Scout mount doubles as a rear sight when you remove the optic, so you will still have that as backup.

Yes,stay away from the dust cover mounts. The Crazy Ivan or AK-type side mounts are what I've found works best for me,with a typical riflescope. The mount is a little high, but you can still use your iron sights for close-up work...

I had an SKS that would shoot 3" groups at 100 yards with the irons. I put a scope on it and immediately the groups opened up to 4". Go figure.

The earlier response to sell the sks is what I did.....they are tough performers, probably not a bad SHTF close range weapon.......frustrating to accurately scope.
