Does anyone understand the way Wyoming preference points work? We were told by people from the Fish and Game Dept. that the pref. points would only help you draw your first choice of an elk region. But, if you check the draw results, applicants with a point drew their third choice before anyone with fewer points drew their first choice. Doesn't seem right. and if you draw second or third choice you don't even lose your points!

It was told to me that they run all the PP applacations 1st,2nd and 3rd choice. Then move down the list to the ones without PP.
yes you do not lose your points if you draw on your 2nd or 3rd choice.

What bugs me is that if I had known the way they did this, I would have applied differently. Since my wife and I have a pref. pt. for deer, we could have applied for a nearly impossible area as first choice-say 102-and a much easier regional second and third choice. That way we draw EVERY year but don't loose the pts. till we draw 102. Could be many years.

I also call the game & fish I was told the that preference points had no bearing in anyway on second or third choice.

If you use Wyoming preference point system if you do not draw using your preference point, you than go to the random draw. So actually who have 2 opportunities to draw even your first choice.
