Good shooting with them iron sights. Handloads or factory ammo?

Factory ppu......
100 yards.
I hope the new trigger will help it do even better.
I'm also looking for a smaller aperture.
The ghost ring is ok, but I think it'll do better.

Gotcha.

Have you tried NEGC for a smaller aperture?

Midway has them for around $10 each for the Williams sights.
I might start with the .093 a that's what comes on them.

I have shot the .093 on my lever guns.
Front sight still kinda fuzzy with em, gave the .050 a try.
Front sight crisp and defined shot tighter smaller groups with it .
Kinda robs ya of about 15 mins of daylight at dusk and dawn.

Took a 1/16th drill bit and opened up the .050 to .063.
Front sight still crisp and clear, checked it out in the back yard early one morning. Some difference but not alot.
The William's ones are aluminum, so if ya decide to punch one out it dont take alot. I hit it with a toothpick with alumablack by birchwood Casey to cover the faint drill ring.
It works.
I also jewelers file carefully narrowing the width of front sight post and turn the beads on em into straight post blending em in straight and square, I have done it on all my peep sighted rifles.
Too me it makes a more precise sight picture on target.
I could buy skinner front sights, but I like doing simple stuff myself to save some money at times.

Is that target shot with the peep basically bottomed out?
You might try installing a higher front sight post on it and get it down to the bull some what.
It's a common solution
I have had to do it on several rifles over the years.
I would not grind the stripper clip feed portion on the bridge of the receiver to get it lower. That is what it looks like to me the sight is bottomed out on.

Jmo.

Actually had to change the front sight as it as too high.
Shooting way low. I want it two inches high at 100 yards.
Do you prefer dead on at 100 with these type of sights?

renegade,
Thanks for the information. I wasn't sure what size aperture to get.

I cut the top of the front sight dead on aim, poa and poi at 100.
Whether scoped or iron sighted I use dead on at 100
Rounds are 2- 4" low at 200 for the most part on the calibers I shoot
Most of my hunting is under 125 to 150 in mature rolling terrian oak forest and hardwood bottom river areas here in Tn and Ft Campbell.
Furthest I ever shot a deer was about 125 in Colorado back in the mid 80,s.
I grew up in Maine most shots I ever took up their were 75yds and under.

My hunting experience is similar. I've only taken one deer at 200.
The rest at 125, or less.
If my sight subtends too much of the target I've been known to sight in using a six o'clock clock hold to dead center the target. Target shooting though, not hunting.
Thinking about putting a globe front sight on it.

You're welcome.
Sometimes all you have to do is ask. The worse that can be said is no.

Privi is some good ammo at a very good price, especially online at $12 a box

Have any of you ever chronied ppu versus their advertised speed
.

Have seen alot of conflicting stuff on its speed.

I shoot the rifle line 8mm 196gr SP
Suppose to be 2410 or 2450 IIRC

Round hits hard either way and is very accurate for me.

Never choreographed it.
I'm going to load 175gr in mine.
Should be good enough for hogs around here.

I got one a few years ago and it still sets like it came.

Took it out to shoot after cleaning it up and the old ammo i had did ok.
At least the ones that did not hang fire or not go bang at all.

I got it with the thought of making another rifle up but i just don't know if i should let it stay like it is.

Most all of my other rifles are made from 98"s and one or 2 are 96's.

Reason is they work.
