Papa Stavros Gyro Fries. Wife's chastising me because I added ketchup and tabasco. I said at least it isn't windex.

Ill beat 284 to it.

You all eat chit that I can't even id.

Pretty sure I need to drive a hundred miles to find falafel.
And I'm only guessing I could get it in Pittsburgh.
But, it's not Italian, Irish, German, or Polish, so Pittsburgh may not have it.

Best I ever had was at a place in Denver. I've had Greek food all over the country but this place beat them all. Was working there for about a week and ate there almost every day. My favorite is the fried smelts. Nothing finer than a big pile of golden crisp smells with tziki sauce and cold beer to wash em down.

Since moving here I was thrilled to find gyro's once more. But something was not as I remembered.

When back in Illinois I had to see if it was imagination and the passing of time, or if a true Greek restaurant held something that others didn't.

My suspicions were confirmed. Nothing like a greek run, greek shop.

I was probably 50 before I had a Gyro, I've had many since. What a doggone treat a well made one is!

Judging from the Bourdain/Zimmern shows, I think I could be quite food happy in Geece.

"I'd have to drive a hundred miles to find falafel"
Just for grins, I googled "falafel in Lexington Ky." I got fooled, five Greek establishments there. I guess the next time I'm in the big city I should pass on my usual tall boy Bud & 6 White Castles for the trip home & try some Greek instead.

Funny you should mention a "doggone treat". Several years ago I had my first Gyro Sandwich. I thought it to be very good table fare but when I offered the end piece to my black lab, he turned up his nose and moved over to the other side of the room to lie down. Must have reminded him of a "bad date".

close sse. It's 'ear-o'.

I had a Greek friend in college. She would always go nuts when I'd talk about leaving the OSU campus bars and grabbing a couple of "gy-ros' with a hard 'g' sound. For her, I think it was worse than the 'C' word.

Yes, yer rros is what I've been told more than once.

Now........ don't hang me from the gallows pole, but Arby's has a Gyro with 3 choices of meat.. The Greek meat one might pass if it had more onions & sauce.

Hey.... it beats a blank.

I have an excellent Greek restaurant five minutes from my office. It's not something I crave weekly, but probably eat it 1-2 times a month. I could put their Tzatziki sauce on Corn Flakes! It's owned by a Greek couple in their 60's that close the restaurant every Fall for one month so they can go back to Greece. Due to them being close to retirement age I"m afraid one of these days they may not come back.

If you stand still long enough the Greeks will stuff you with Feta cheese, like they do everything else.

Found that out a few years back when in Greece. They love Feta.

I was disappointed last time I was there a few years back. Wasn't like I remembered it in the 80's and 90's. More of a Greek Dennys now. Still decent food though for a midnight snack fix or hang over breakfast slumming out of a Vegas weekend.

Love a good gyro and it's not really that hard to make - I've used Alton Brown's Gyro recipe and it's turned out really well using the Weber gas grill with a rotisserie. Maybe not Greek Restaurant good but good enough.

Since it's such a paste when you form the mass we call it "Lamb spam" and it really helps to make the meat mixture the night before to get it compacted. The rotisserie I have is one of those with little clamps so it doesn't go through the meat and his cooking times are a little short because you don't get the heat transfer through the central skewer.

Looks great

I have Greek first generation friend that runs this restaurant in Baltimore with his family. Would not believe the screaming and fights among family members working in the kitchen.

Fantastic food if you are in Baltimore area. I think some of best in mid Atlantic states
