And while we're at it;

Holy See confirms changes to Italian liturgical translation of Our Father, Gloria

The Apostolic See has confirmed the translation of the third edition of the Roman Missal prepared by the Italian bishops' conference. The translation has garnered attention for its changes to the Our Father, as well as the Gloria.

The newly-approved Messale Romano will translate the penultimate line of the Our Father (ne nos indúcas in tentatiónem) (lead us not into temptation) as “non abbandonarci alla tentazione” (do not abandon us to temptation). The existing version had translated it as “non ci indurre in tentazione” (lead us not into temptation). CNA

Which explains a lot.

Seems correct to me. crazy Seems non-scriptural to assert, even by implication, that God "leads us into temptation:.

They can sure make Mass confusing sometimes with all of their changes.

I think I'll keep saying the Our Father the same way I've always said it.

Martin Luther had this to say:
"And lead us not into temptation...
What does this mean? God tempts no one. We pray in this petition that God would guard and keep us so that the devil, the world, and our sinful nature may not deceive us or mislead us into false belief, despair, and other great shame and vice. Although we are attacked by these things, we pray that we may finally overcome them and win the victory."

Yep, they are doing one thing right, for a change. "Lead us not into temptation" was once understood to mean (as we speak today) "lead us away from temptation." We no longer speak grammatically like that, so the old way of saying that makes it seem to us modern English speakers like God would ordinarily lead us into temptation, unless we asked him not to.

More dumbing down. Because no one should have to think about these things and ask cogent questions. Just create mindless blather.

Like pre-chewing a child's food.

Christianity is MUCH more simple than a lot of churches make it out to be.

You can waste time money and effort over arguing etc.. a word or three.

Yet you must believe and ask for forgiveness and lead a Christian life.,

Last Sunday evening when I had a chance to go to church as a Christian, I had the opportunity to BE a Christian and help a lady in need with her yard work. I chose the latter. We didn't argue over words, she was much appreciative.

Thats at least the way I see it.

Wonder what it "cost" the church to change a few words. Wonder how many Catholics will care. What it will change. How many will even be aware of the change much or actually what it might imply. How many lives will be changed. How much witnessing does this do? How much good does it do period?

I am guilty of sin, and I ask forgiveness and I believe. The rest is small change again, IMHO

Pretty sure you are wrong, it is just that his god is not the same as your God.

Non-sensical changes that have no merit and will lead to more confusion.

I see we are trying to correct the Bible again. Fail!

As much as I detest the mick hierarchy I will say that I wouldn't take either of those crooked bastards at their word for anything, if either of them said that it was daylight at 1 pm I would need to walk outside and check for myself as just looking through a window wouldn't be good enough.

Same here. Every organization has bureaucrats that have to make changes to make themselves relevant.

The Bible is the word of God and it makes it clear on how to say the Our Father. God Bless America.
