I was probably 50 before I had a Gyro, I've had many since. What a doggone treat a well made one
Funny you should mention a "doggone treat". Several years ago I had my first Gyro Sandwich. I thought it to be very good table fare but when I offered the end piece to my black lab, he turned up his nose and moved over to the other side of the room to lie down. Must have reminded him of a "bad date".

close sse. It's 'ear-o'.
I had a Greek friend in college. She would always go nuts when I'd talk about leaving the OSU campus bars and grabbing a couple of "gy-ros' with a hard 'g' sound. For her, I think it was worse than the 'C' word.

Now........ don't hang me from the gallows pole, but Arby's has a Gyro with 3 choices of meat.. The Greek meat one might pass if it had more onions & sauce.
Hey.... it beats a blank.
Their Reuben ain't half bad.

I have an excellent Greek restaurant five minutes from my office. It's not something I crave weekly, but probably eat it 1-2 times a month. I could put their Tzatziki sauce on Corn Flakes! It's owned by a Greek couple in their 60's that close the restaurant every Fall for one month so they can go back to Greece. Due to them being close to retirement age I"m afraid one of these days they may not come back.
Know fat, know flavor. No fat, no flavor.
I tried going vegan, but then realized it was a big missed steak.

If you stand still long enough the Greeks will stuff you with Feta cheese, like they do everything else.
Found that out a few years back when in Greece. They love Feta.

I’ll be hitting the Mad Greek on my Vegas trip in a couple of weeks. Id save my Greek Fix for Vegas. Ok that reads funny. I was disappointed last time I was there a few years back. Wasn't like I remembered it in the 80's and 90's. More of a Greek Dennys now. Still decent food though for a midnight snack fix or hang over breakfast slumming out of a Vegas weekend.

Love a good gyro and it's not really that hard to make - I've used Alton Brown's Gyro recipe and it's turned out really well using the Weber gas grill with a rotisserie. Maybe not Greek Restaurant good but good enough. Since it's such a paste when you form the mass we call it "Lamb spam" and it really helps to make the meat mixture the night before to get it compacted. The rotisserie I have is one of those with little clamps so it doesn't go through the meat and his cooking times are a little short because you don't get the heat transfer through the central skewer.
If something on the internet makes you angry the odds are you're being manipulated
