If the rain ever stops long enough for the streams to clear up, I'll be fishing again. A lot will be in snake country. I was wondering if red wing work type boots would be adequate to stop a snake bite?

What type of snakes in your area? Mostly copperheads that disguise themselves as rat snakes.

I wear snake gators that come up to the knee. Snake proof. Keeps the legs dry, too, in the tall wet grass.

I have used snake gaiters and dedicated snake boots. Academy sports landman boots come to the knee, are both water and snake proof and are comfy. I really like having them vs using regular boots. Let's me focus on hunting and fishing more than looking at my feet. About $100

I have snake chaps that I believe are effective, but they're awfully hot and uncomfortable during snake season. I'd look into gaiters.

Gaiters for me , that way I can wear whickever boot I want . Be careful about wearing thin lightweight boots - a member in our hunting club got bit through his shoe by a pygmy rattlesnake . Thought a thorn went through his shoe - stayed at the lease working and such - went home feeling bad - realised he'd been snake bit . 6 days in the hospital .

a delicate subject for sure. if i ever got snake bit, i might have a change of perspective.
copper heads seem to be adapting to the suburbs, and will bite Fido.
an old sayin' when walking in the woods is not to waste time looking for a snake.
that said, to be poisonous snake bit wouldn't be fun, maybe expensive and even dangerous.
loose pants legs might help a bit? good heavy leather boots is probably very good.
i'm not foo-fooing snake bites. they can be dangerous, even fatal.
a finger bitten by a copperhead is not a small thing.
the way to avoid snakes in the woods is to keep moving?
i stopped carrying a snake bite kit with me decades ago.
i do not know if that was a good decision or not. i've never been bitten by a poisonous snake.

My kid builds powerlines. He's been working in PRIME, timber rattler infestations unprotected. I texted him a pic of a hospital bill from a snakebite episode. Expect $100k - $150k for a good, solid bite. He got himself a set of gaiters...………..can't wear snake boots due to the requirements his job puts on footwear.
For hunting, I use Irish Setter Vaprtrek snake boots. AWESOME !!! They're, basically, 17" tall running shoes. I love 'em and worry about hunting...……….not where I'm stepping.

I was wondering if red wing work type boots would be adequate to stop a snake bite? Absolutely... as long as they do not bite higher than your boot you are fine. GOOD rubber boots (Lacrosse) will also turn a snake.

^^^This^^^ Rocky makes some decent ones that aren’t too expensive. I have had the WORST experience with Rocky boots. Bought a pair for work a few years back and I'm not exaggerating when I say that they fell apart in every part after a month. Couple of years later, wife bought me a pair of Rocky snake boots and after 4 uses, the soles completely started coming off. From what I hear Rocky made good quality boots in the beginning and from ALOT of things I've read, they are complete schit now. Shame on them. Won't give them another penny ever, let the ship sink. Maybe it was a bad batch. But twice? I have a pair of Red Wing Irish Setter upland snake boots I bought when they were being discontinued in the 90s, that have proven to be outstanding quality for about 8 years now. Nothing is a guarantee, but snake boots me feel a little more at ease. Buy they best you can afford and do some research. Not much more you can do besides stay indoors.
