Whats the name of the dealer? I never seen a 2018 that cheap. Unless the dealer is adding a bunch of fees onto the price.

The KLR 650 is a great bike.

No idea why Kawasaki stopped making them.

Plenty of market for more options than just the V-Strom.

My guess is Kawasaki has a little surprise up their sleeve which will be announced this October. smile

Current rumor on the Adventure forum is Kawasaki will release a 400cc twin cylinder KLR for 2020. Time will tell.

Honda makes a new Dual Sport 450 https://powersports.honda.com/2020/crf450l.aspx - bad ass, but $10K to get one. The old KLX is just too heavy for any semi serious offroad use. Toys are getting so darned expensive it's hard to have more than one or two hobbies.

A ‘92 KLR was my primary transportation for two years and 45,000 completely trouble-free miles. Never was a serious dirt bike, but it was a serious dirt road and forest road bike. It would pull 75mph all day long in relative comfort on the Innerstate too. Winding that underwhelming motor flat out down twisty roads after Ninja pilots was fun too.

I never figured out how theKawasaki engineers wrung that wide a power band out of a single-cylinder carbureted thumper but they did. High seat height, long-travel suspension and water-cooling was great for commuting too.

Biggest drawback was, as mentioned, plastic/steel components sure faded/rusted fast even while the bike itself still ran great.

I’m sorry to see it go after s what’s gotta be more’n 30 years of relatively minor changes. I expect this leaves theHonda and Suzuki air cooled dual sport thumpers as the longest-running production motorcycles.

As a straight dirt off road and MX rider I never saw the appeal. Its a big fat heavy under suspended street bike dressed up to look like a dirt bike. It is made at best for connecting to highways by dirt roads. Short, wide, smooth dirt roads.
