BTW, again deferring to the western hunters that know everything about hunting every animal they've never seen, most hogs around here are shot at night or very last light which means close range, which means the B.C. of the bullet don't mean much. Some guys just can't comprehend the whole close range/BC don't matter thing. There are some dense MF's here for sure.

What bullet would you start with for long range hogs and targets? Less COAL and Atmospheric particulars...the 75 Hornie HPBT. Hint...………………….. Is this based on your experience killing hogs. Ya didn’t think so! Jesus sugartits when are you gonna suck start a glock and save everyone the BS. PS 😩😂 That little ass hole knows everything about what's best for killing woodchucks too. Amazin' ain't it ?

Joan,
Gals that "know" as "much" as you, will ALWAYS be best served by asking questions...rather than giving "answers". Congratulations?!?
Bless your heart for trying though.

Have shot a good few pigs with the 75g HPBT from the 223 and if I happen to be carrying a 223 I’d just as soon have that bullet than most others. Like the 65g SGK too.
I’d much sooner have a 243 or bigger though.

That's the best buck I've seen you post! Congrats, what's the tape on the antlers? About 100"? How long was the shot? 30 yards? Boy, I'll bet the bipod came in handy!

Targets only after 250 yards... will it kill them further??? Absolutely... will you put the animal down immediately further out??? NO. I have shot an awful lot of .223 ammo on deer and hogs. LIMIT your range, and even then, they run a LOT of the time... I will not shoot head shots over 75 yards with this caliber... not saying it will not do the job further out - it will - but your margin of error is very slim.
Targets - shoot them at any distance you choose. We have a fair amount of pigs around. I have shot lots of them up to a bit over 250 with subsonic 22lr in the head, out to about 50 yards. Can't be much energy there. If you have an accurate 223, and many can be really accurate, and a good enough bullet, the retained energy for a head shot should be there a fair ways out. As to longer head shots, I typically stop on heads about 300 or so yards. Of course the other day, first time I've shot past about 250 or so in a long time, I was offered a chance at a steel wolf at 650, and the lung area was so covered with splats, I shot the head. Missed the eye by maybe an inch or so first shot. If the energy is there, for X shot, then its only up to the shooter to know if they are capable or not.

As to the original question....the 69 Tipped Match King has accounted for several rock chucks, coyotes, and at least three decent mule-deer so far. BC is well above average, and we've found them to be very accurate in a variety of rifles.
It won't leave you wanting imho.

AR or bolt? P Neither, Bought a nice 223 second hand after being told it had a 1in 9 barrel, when I received it took a look and it turns out to have a 1 in 14 twist believe it or not, needless to say it went back. Was pretty pissed off about the deal, hence my lack of participation in this thread I have decided to build one, and it will be a 1 in 7.

65 grain SGK’s shoot very well out of my 9 twist rifle. I have no experience with hogs but have killed deer out to 300 with it. Fri3nd of mine who has killed many hogs likes it for that. Now that I’ll be living in SC Inwill probably do some hog hunting.

Great BC for long range. Shoots great out of my 1-8” Tikka. P
