Propaganda videos made by anyone other than Iran could be suspect.

It's pretty hard to fake them shooting down drones and doing a news release to the world that they are ready for war... AND would be passing the enrichment levels within a week now?

Well a couple of options seem appropriate. They destroyed $180M of American property, by their own admission.

1. The next time the Iranian swift boats head toward any of our ships, invite an A-10 to shred them. After they are turned to Swiss cheese, publish the video, titled "BRRAAAPPPTTT" .

2. They have fired SAM's at our drones twice, apparently with mobile launchers. It would be nice if they parked them all in one warehouse. If not, fine, just Tomahawk them in the middle of the night. Reapply as required.

3. Tell our best sub in the area, "sink Iranian subs. happy hunting".

Keep squeezing the economic zit and when the time is right, arm their resistance and give them air support as needed. Looks to me like there is major unhappy amongst the locals.

I suspect the USN has done exactly this once or twice before. Their diesel subs are pretty quiet, but IIRC they're still very findable and sinkable.

As suggested elsewhere, "disappear" one sub at a time. No comment before or after. If asked, Trump could offer regret about the poor quality of Iran's navy - and offer assistance to find the lost sub.

Another option to make life harder for the Iranian government is to quietly help some Sunni crazies in Iraq kill a battalion of Iranian militia in Iraq. The wars in Iraq and Syria are deeply unpopular in Iran. The Iranians are much more interested in a steady supply of Hummus and goat cheese than bullets and dead Iranian sons.

We know that's true. Iran has been ripe for regime change from within for years, but opportunities to encourage that have been squandered. The fact remains, though, that the regime has been encouraging anti-Western activities for a long, long time.

The foil for that mouse strategy is what's proposed above several times: slowly blow up their military assets on the sly, and never fully engage. Continue to chip away at their prosperity by pumping oil.
As in Operation Earnest Will, reflag tankers in the gulf as US (and make their owners pay escort fees to the USN), then defend them as needed, with limited reprisals.
