Auschwitz was set up to hold the Poles. After the war Communist Government used either Auschwitz or Birkenau to hold members of opposition.

Yup; those Poles and Jews were storming the fences and climbing the walls to get into those concentration camps, weren't they? Just like all those other folks do to get into our American "concentration camps". When is something gonna be done about our "public servants" ? Like drug testing or psychological evaluations. Some of these idiots are truly somewhere off the deep end.

A friend of mine was one of those. Amazing stories. And he was in 5 separate camps. The last camp was liberated by Asian Russian troops.

Poland was betrayed by all.
Sad.

When I was in the 6th grade, we live in a trailer park and there was a woman living there that was in a concentration camp during WWII. She hardly ever wore short sleeve blouses/shirts, but when she did, you could see the numbers tattooed on her arm. Some nights she would have nightmares and wake up screaming. Sometimes her screaming would wake us kids up. Mom and Dad had to explain, to us kids, what she had been thru. Truly horrible.

After WW2 many of those people wound up here. Growing up I learned a lot about them and from them. I always admired how they could spot political B.S. from a mile away. They'd already seen & heard that crap one too many times. They're pretty much all gone now and it's a shame some of our younger generations won't get the opportunity to learn from them. Not just the ones who went to the camps but a lot of good German people who didn't like having their country "fundamentally changed" by a small group of socialists who got into power and began changing the rules to suit themselves and their thirst for power. Sound familiar ? By the time you realize your government has just been taken over it's too late. Just google " Enabling Act of 1933" sometime.

3rd grade teacher had the tattoo on her arm. She talked to us about her experience a few times but at that age we had no way to comprehend the depth of that kind of evil. Senior year in high school I went to the Holocaust museum in D.C. with a buddy. For the first time, the reality of what happened sank in.

I visited Auschwitz last year in Poland. It is a moving experience. The Nazi’s left only one gas chamber standing at the end of war. You never forget the emotion of walking through it. The first batch to die in it was 500 Russian POWs. It worked so well, they started building many more. The problem of body disposal started.

The group ahead of us in the tour was an Israeli military unit. Some of them had family members that had died at that camp.

Funny how history really does repeat itself in some ways. Growing up in the '50's & 60's that sort of horror seemed like it could never be repeated in 100 years. Now we have American "politicians" espousing socialism. They remind me of "The National Socialist German Workers Party"......... Who became known as the "Nazi party".... And some of our home grown azzwipes call Donald Trump a NAZI ????...........GMAFB. ..... There must be a lot of those old Germans I once knew that are rolling in their graves now.

My grandkids are in Europe for a month and just finished a tour of the camps. Their 1st question to me was how did they get the people to tolerate that or guard the camps. Ignorant and weak people are easily led I replied.

My dad used to say "If it can be done to them, it can be done to us"
