Is currently about 4' above it's normal level.

A federal worker at Meyers Beach, near Cornucopia WI told me that it was due to heavy late snows and large amounts of spring rain. Meyers Beach was always 40-50 feet of nice sandy beach from the base of the bluff out to the water. On Saturday it was about 8-10 feet at it's widest and non existent in places.
He also said that the lake was at near record levels. and expected to rise til august when it usually hits it's peak levels.

Later in the day at Bayfield the jetty around the public marina looked to be about a foot above the water. Been a couple of years since I'd seen it, but I remember it being quite a bit higher, relatively. I wondered if it would give much protection from storm driven waves?

I also wondered about the other lakes. Are Michigan and Huron significantly high? I'm foggy on the flow and how it affects lake levels

I winder what kind of volume of that extra 4' of water amounts to? How much did the surface area of the lake increase?

It means trouble for a lot of people, around each of the 5 Great Lakes.

Lake Superior has as much water as the rest of the Great Lakes combined – plus three more Lake Eries.

Lake Superior's 3 quadrillion gallons are enough to cover both North and South America under a foot of water.

It's amazing to know if one inch of rain falls over Lake Superior, it will add 550 billion gallons of water.

48 x 550,000,000,000= 26,400,000,000,000 gallons of water. 😀 26.4 trillion gals added.

All the Great Lakes are high, and water seeks its own level. I'm on a bay on the south shore of Lake Ontario. As of yesterday the lake was almost 2 feet above the long term June average. Some of the lower lying shoreline areas are really hurting. It's been another one of those years when local governments set up the distribution points for the free sandbags. 2017 was a similar story. There's now a class action lawsuit by lakefront property owners against the International Joint Commission ( IJC ) that supposedly regulates lake levels even in wet years. I heard it's gonna be late summer before the levels drop off much if it doesn't rain much above average.. If Superior is 4 feet above normal that means everybody on Huron, Michigan, Erie and Ontario is gonna catch more hell before fall.

I suspect that higher lake levels will cause an increase in lake trout populations. The increase in Lake Trout farts will drive climate change for generations. Just how may generations are left is dependent on the level of Lake Trout farts...

I remember hunting on Manitoulin Island in the around 1999 and Lake Huron was down about 8’. You could walk out to some of the offshore islands.

Ironic that only six years ago the Great Lakes were setting records for low levels and the bordering states were enacting all kinds of restrictions on removing water from them.

Two sets of greatgrandparents immigrated to Wisconsin near Bayfield. Bayfield is a great place to visit. Lots to do and great food. Had the best restaurant walleye dinner there. If you take the shore road from Bayfield to Duluth, about halfway there's a cheese factory/smoked fish outfit that is outstanding and relatively inexpensive. Remember wolfing down my purchase in their parking lot.

Speaking of hell in a handbasket I was also discouraged to find that one of the better cheese makers in Wisconsin closed it's doors recently. Bletsoes of Marathon is no more.

Their cheese was regionally famous in one of the regions most famed for cheese. I was told that the business model was sound and the product superb til the end. but they simply weren't able to hire and retain workers.

I mourn...

I calculated that it has added one low Lake Powell (10 million acre feet) this year.
